If for some reason you weren't depressed enough at the state of the world, the great Severin Films is giving you the chance to get even darker, with a brand new release of the “piss-yourself terrifying” British apocalyptic drama Threads.

First broadcast on BBC2 in 1984, Mick Jackson and Barry Hines' BAFTA-winning Threads, which currently has a series in development from the makers of Adolescence, follows the fallout of a nuclear bomb dropped over the English city of Sheffield, painting a nightmarish picture of life after the apocalypse and attempts at survival through nuclear devastation. Karen Meagher and Reece Dinsdale starred as survivors suffering a fate worse than death throughout the ongoing nuclear winter.

Severin Films' new 3-disc release of Threads brings the bleak nightmare to 4K UHD for the first time ever, scanned from the original 16mm A/B rolls for maximum grisliness, and comes packed with extras and special features, including audio commentary with Jackson moderated by the legendary Kier-La Janisse and Severin Films' David Gregory, audio commentary with Meagher and Television Historian Simon Farquhar, interviews, limited-edition replica of the government-issued public information pamphlet, a feature length documentary on the production of Threads and its effect on the people of Sheffield, and much more.

We can't imagine Threads will be up for pre-order long before it sells out, so grab yourself a copy from Severin Films' official site right here. Check out new pack shots of Threads below, and for more, here's 10 of the best horror 4K and Blu-ray releases coming this May.
