Alligator (Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray) - Shout! Factory
ALLIGATOR Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray (Credit: Shout! Factory) As we're in something of an animal attack horror renaissance at the moment (see: Primate, Dangerous Animals, Hungry, Tina Romero's big gay shark horror movie, Glen Powell's upcoming The Death Roll, to name but a few), why not sink your teeth into Shout! Factory's new SteelBook release of Lewis Teague's Alligator? In the 1980 croc (let us have this rhyme, please) shocker, herpetologist (Robin Riker) helps a detective (Robert Forster) track her flushed-away pet, now a king-size mutant called Ramone.
Shout!'s Alligator comes with commentary with Teague and Forster, interviews, additional scenes, new appreciation from Jennifer's Body director Karyn Kusama, and more.
The Bride! (4K UHD + Digital) - Shout! Factory
(Credit: Shout! Factory) Maggie Gyllenhaal's mad monster movie The Bride! might not have shocked the box office to life, but the Bride of Frankenstein retelling already looks destined to go down in cult classic history. Starring Oscar winner Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz, The Bride! sees a lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travel to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined.
The Bride! 4K UHD release comes with special features including an inside look at the costume design of the already-iconic femme fatale.
The Devil's Candy (Limited Edition 4K UHD + Blu-ray) - Second Sight Films
THE DEVIL'S CANDY Limited Edition 4K UHD & Blu-ray (Credit: Second Sight Films) Heavy metal and horror go hand in hand like, well, heavy metal and horror. Sean Byrne's The Devil's Candy is easily one of the more disturbing in the subgenre of movies that see musicians battling their inner (and not so inner demons). Starring Ethan Embry and Pruitt Taylor Vince, the 2017 horror follows a struggling painter and his wife purchase their dream home, however it soon becomes clear that the house hides a dark past. An evil entity has set its sights on their young daughter and the family must summon all their strength to battle the demonic forces that are closing in.
As always, Second Sight Films' Limited Edition release is fully stacked with extras, including new interviews with Embry and Byrne and audio commentary with the latter, behind the scenes VFX work, two short films, a booklet full of new essays and more.
Faces of Death (Limited Edition 4K UHD) - Vinegar Syndrome
FACES OF DEATH (Credit: Vinegar Syndrome) With Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei's pseudo-reboot now in theaters, Vinegar Syndrome is giving the notoriously controversial Faces of Death a brand new new 4K UHD release for those who like their gore extra crispy – and for the first time on home video, it's fully uncut. John Alan Schwartz's notorious 1978 faux-snuff cult classic contains footage showing different gruesome ways of dying from a variety of sources, including parachute jumps, snake bites and more horrific scenes. While many of these were faked for the film, Faces of Death also includes pre-existing video footage of real deaths and the gory, grisly aftermath. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Vinegar Syndrome's new release of Faces of Death comes as part of the new Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. Strictly limited to 5,000 units, Faces of Death includes a 40-page perfect bound book, plus a title sticker which may or may not be placed on the iconic cover. The disc itself includes a newly scanned and restored 4K restoration from the film's 35mm and 16mm original camera negative, with special features including never before seen outtakes, archival featurette, and “Many Faces of Death”, in which scholars and genre experts examine the controversial origins and lasting cultural impact of the legendary gorefest.
Invaders from Mars (4K UHD) - BFI
INVADERS FROM MAR (Credit: BFI) William Cameron Menzie's 1953 sci-fi horror Invaders from Mars inspired a whole host of filmmaking legends, including Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, Don Coscarelli, John Carpenter and more, so it's well deserving of a stunning new 4K restoration from the BFI. In Invaders from Mars, a young boy witnesses a flying saucer landing behind his home one night. When his father investigates, he returns a changed man…
The BFI's new edition of Invaders from Mars comes with new audio commentary, new short documentaries that explore the legacy and design of the film, before-and-after restoration clips detailing the painstaking efforts that went into the new release, a featurette with Landis and Dante, and much more. Oh, and don't worry if you're in the U.S. and want to grab yourself a copy – Invaders from Mars is region free.

Motel Hell (Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook) - Shout! Factory
Motel Hell - Limited Edition Steelbook (Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook) Credit: Shout! Factory Comedy horror favorite Motel Hell gets a 4K UHD SteelBook upgrade from Shout! Factory this month, one that puts the iconic pig-headed chainsaw killer front and center of the artwork. In Kevin Connor's cult slasher, farmer, butcher, motel manager, and meat entrepreneur Vincent Smith, who, with the help of his sister Ida, traps travelers and harvests them for his human sausages. Sounds delicious, sure, but the Hello Motel should probably not be top of your list of places to stay should you ever be in the area.
Shout! Factory's new release of Motel Hell comes with commentary from Connor, cast and crew interviews, featurettes and more.
Nightbreed (Limited Edition 4K UHD) - Arrow Films
NIGHTBREED LIMITED EDITION 4K UHD (Credit: Arrow Video) Hellraiser and Candyman genius Clive Barker's 1990 sophomore feature Nightbreed is a truly unique horror movie, one that has rightfully gone on to receive a deserved cult status following a troubled release of studio interference and an unrepresentative marketing campaign. Naturally, the good folks over at Arrow are giving it the Limited Edition 4K release it deserves.
Starring Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby and THE David Cronenberg, Nightbreed follows an unstable mental patient named Aaron Boone who is falsely led to believe by his doctor that he is a serial killer. Arrow's new release comes with both the studio-approved theatrical cut and the reconstructed, reinvigorated director's cut of Nightbreed, as well as audio commentaries, interviews, Barker's original screenplay, brand new writing and Monsters, Maniacs and Midian: The Making of Nightbreed, a brand new feature-length documentary incorporating never-before-seen interviews and behind-the-scenes footage shot on location at Pinewood Studios for an Electronic Press Kit in 1989. Seriously, this release is stacked.
Taxidermia (Limited Edition Blu-ray) - Radiance Films
TAXIDERMIA Limited Edition Blu-ray (Credit: Radiance Films) A lot of movies like to call themselves the wildest, the most disturbing, the most freakish, what have you, but György Pálfi's Taxidermia genuinely might win all the awards for most WTF movie of the 21st century. The Hungarian satirical-comedy-drama-surrealist-body horror-arthouse film follows three generations of men in a variety of completely bizarre circumstances to paint a fascinating portrait of Hungary from the 1940s to the twenty-first century. If ever there was a movie to take a chance on without reading too much into it, Taxidermia would be it.
Radiance Films' release of Taxidermia marks the world Blu-ray premiere of the critically-acclaimed craziness, and includes new interviews, commentaries, essays, making of and more.
Touch Me/Hypochondriac (Limited Edition Double Blu-ray Pack) - Lightbulb Film Distribution
In the words of Fango's own EIC Phil Nobile Jr., horny tentacle horror comedy Touch Me proves that Lou Taylor Pucci “has that dawg in him“, and so really there is no further need to convince you to buy this set of director Addison Heimann's delightfully queer double feature. But should you still need convincing, Touch Me can only be described as a live action hentai, and will cheer you up after the devastatingly brilliant Hypochondriac.
Lightbulb Films' double feature pack of Touch Me and Hypochondriac comes with director's commentary, over 5 hours of extras and a brand new essay celebrating one of indie horror's most promising names.
Pre-order the Touch Me/Hypochondriac double feature pack here for a May 4 release.
Uzumaki (Blu-ray Collector's Edition) - Umbrella Entertainment
UZUMAKI Blu-ray Collector's Edition (Credit: Umbrella Entertainment) The creepy cosmic horror works of legendary manga artist Junji Ito are notoriously difficult to translate to film, but Higuchinsky's Uzumaki is definitely the best of them. The 2000 J-horror is based on Ito's twisted tale of the same name which follows the events in a small town plagued by a mysterious curse involving spirals. Surreal visuals, unsettling humor, and creeping terror all combine to craft a hypnotic fever dream that must be seen to be believed.
Umbrella's new Collector's Edition release would be worth grabbing just for the incredible artwork from designer That Gomach alone, but the set also comes completely chock full of extras including a new essay from Japanese horror legend (and one of the originators of the J-horror genre as we know it) Norio Tsuruta (Premonition, Ring 0), reversible poster, video essays, new commentaries (one proudly contributed by yours truly), behind the scenes footage and an interview with Mr. Ito himself. Simply put, the set is a must-have for fans of East Asian horror cinema.
