Few movies in the history of horror are quite as notorious as that of Cannibal Holocaust. Directed by Ruggero Deodato, this bit of exploitation cinema was so controversial in its day, it was banned in multiple countries. It felt legitimately dangerous. That’s why it might be hard to imagine a PG version of it but believe it or not, such a thing exists. The folks at Grindhouse Releasing are bringing it to life.

Fango is proud to present an exclusive clip from the upcoming 4K version of Cannibal Holocaust, which is playing now in theaters but will soon be making its way to home video. The 4K Ultra HD release from the folks at Grindhouse is jam-packed with bonus features but, rather crucially, includes a PG version of the movie, which has never been released. Those final shots are still pretty hardcore by PG standards but one can only imagine what the full version plays like. The fine folks at Grindhouse also provided us with a second clip from the forthcoming release, which you can check out below. It’s more in line with what viewers have come to expect from the exploitation classic, only in crisp UHD.
For those who haven’t seen it, the movie takes place during a rescue mission in the Amazon rainforest where a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew. Their goal was to study the region's indigenous cannibalistic tribes. They got a little too close for comfort. The movie generated rumors of being a little too real thanks to its early, found footage presentation. The human deaths weren’t real, but the animal deaths were, making it not for the faint of heart to this very day.
Grindhouse crafted this new 4K version of the movie using the original 35mm and 16mm camera negatives. In addition to the clips, we also have box art for the UHD Ultimate Edition, as well as a full breakdown of the special features included. It currently goes for $66.66, with orders expected to begin shipping in October. The Collector’s Bundle, which was limited to 100 copies, has already sold out.
