Artist and illustrator Trevor Henderson is having a banner year with film versions of his viral creations Siren Head and Cartoon Cat already in the works, with today bringing news that the Henderson-created podcast Mayfair Watchers Society is also set to get its own big screen adaptation.
From Bloody Disgusting‘s parent company Cineverse (Terrifier 3, The Toxic Avenger), The Mayfair Watchers Society will bring the podcast, which launched in 2022 on the BloodyFM Podcast Network and has accumulated more than three million downloads since, to life with Henderson producing and co-writing.
Presented as a collection of found tapes and audio accounts, each episode of The Mayfair Watchers Society focuses on different residents encountering Henderson’s iconic style of monsters, including Long Horse, The Man with the Upside Down Face, Mr. Bag, and many more.
Here's what Henderson had to say in a new statement, via Variety:
“The Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting teams have been great partners on the podcast, and I’ve long been impressed with the film side of the company, and its indie philosophy […] I look forward to being very hands-on with adapting the podcast into a feature, and look forward to working closely with them as we develop the film, select the directing and writing teams, and get closer to bringing this to fans.”
The Mayfair Watchers Society is the latest addition to the recent Internet horror boom, following the success of Kane Parsons' Backrooms, Curry Barker's Obsession, and Markiplier's Iron Lung, with upcoming creepypasta adaptations The Third Parent, The Mandela Catalogue, and Jeff the Killer still to come.
Look out for more on The Mayfair Watchers Society as we get it, and for our money, here's some other viral Internet horror memes we think should also be given the adaptation treatment.
