With viral Internet stories turning into popular films like Backrooms this year, it seems like every studio in Hollywood is searching for the next creepypasta story that’ll bring them the same level of success. Bleecker Street’s choice is The Third Parent, their adaptation of which just released a mysterious teaser trailer.
Written and directed by David Michaels, The Third Parent stars Crispin Glover, Rob Lowe, and Roselyn Sanchez, with Lowe producing alongside Gary Michael Walters, Jonathan Halperyn, and Daniel Kresmery. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Based on the viral “creepypasta” series of internet-based stories from writer Elias Witherow, The Third Parent takes place amidst a Fourth of July celebration when a disturbing figure named Tommy Taffy emerges, disguising himself as a human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood and impose authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family.

“I purposefully did not read the online stories that it’s based on, because I knew that it was best for me not to be thinking about too many things,” Glover told Bloody Disgusting back in November of last year. “I could just tell in the situation it was best to stick with the script, but I could see that there were interesting aspects to the writing and why it has a fair amount of popularity online.”
Tommy Taffy’s going to have some stiff competition though, if the laundry list of other ongoing creepypasta adaptations is anything to go by. Brian Duffield is set to helm a Siren Head adaptation, while The Mandela Catalogue is also coming to our screens, along with a Jeff the Killer movie. I guess that’s what we get when this generation of filmmakers was raised on the Internet…
The Third Parent arrives in theaters this winter. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
