Less than two weeks after the reveal that a Siren Head movie is in the works, Sony’s Tri-Star Pictures has nabbed film rights to another viral horror creation from Canadian artist and creature designer Trevor Henderson.
Per Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, Tri-Star has taken the rights for a movie based on Cartoon Cat, one of Henderson's creepiest creatures, described as “an ancient hollow rot that uses the collective human awareness and memories of old cartoons as a passageway to manifest into our reality – and wreak violent havoc.”
Roy Lee (Barbarian), Steven Schneider (Companion), Scott Glassgold (who worked with Henderson on Tarot), and J. Todd Harris, along with Thomas Pettinelli and Marc Marcum, will be involved in producing the ‘fast-tracked' pic. No news yet on who will direct or write, but the hunt is reportedly on as Tri-Star is clearly keen to keep up with the Internet horror boom, following the success of Kane Parsons' Backrooms, Markiplier's Iron Lung, and the recent Mandela Catalogue announcement, while it's fresh.
The aforementioned Siren Head will see the team up of two horror titans with Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Whalefall) directing from a script by Weapons and Resident Evil‘s Zach Cregger.
