The post-Backrooms creepypasta adaptation boom is in full swing with Siren Head and Mandela Catalogue movies in the works, with today bringing news that another viral sensation is set to join the ranks in a new movie based on Jeff the Killer.
From Tongal, the community-powered studio behind projects for Netflix, Disney and Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece, and creator and filmmaker Savanah Moss (Funny Bunny) in her first feature film, the Jeff the Killer movie will bring one of the Internet's most famous urban legends to the big screen.
For the unfamiliar, Jeff the Killer originates from a YouTuber named Sesseur who, in 2008, posted a story to their channel about the titular maniac. The lore continued over on Newgrounds before spiralling across the Internet, accompanied by the now-notorious image of a distorted, pale face (seen above).
In an official statement, Moss, who boasts a following of more than 15 million across platforms including Instagram and TikTok, details more of her experience with the online urban legend:
Jeff the Killer has always been one of those internet horror characters that never really leaves your brain. I actually featured Jeff in a few of my Fever Dream videos years ago, so getting the chance to help bring him to the big screen feels surreal […] One of the coolest things about Jeff is that he’s never really belonged to one person. His story has evolved because thousands of people online have added their own ideas, theories, and interpretations over the years.
