Where To Watch Every RESIDENT EVIL Movie (Including The Animated Ones)

It might not be particularly lore-accurate, but as far as video game to movie adaptations go, the first in Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil series does a pretty good job of nailing the original games' campy tone, as well as crafting an action heroine in Milla Jovovich's Alice who wouldn't be out of place in the game's universe, combat-inappropriate attire and all.

While Anderson's series of Resident Evil movies might not be canon in the Resi-verse, they've still had an influence on the games, with the Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways DLC even paying homage to that iconic laser room death scene.

While the first Resident Evil movie featured mostly original characters, its sequel brought along some game fan favorites for the ride, including Jill Valentine, Carlos Olivera, and their best buddy Nemesis. There's also specific nods to Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 2, with varying levels of accuracy, making Resident Evil: Apocalypse a pretty contended film amongst diehard gamers.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse may be the worst reviewed of the live action series, but it's definitely not without its early 2000s nu-metal cinema charms, and Sienna Guillory rocks Jill's iconic blue tube top like nobody's business.

The Umbrella saga continues in 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction, which shifts the action out of Raccoon City and into the desert, giving everything a distinctly Mad Max feel. As the T-virus decimates the entire earth, a newly-cloned Alice joins up with a convoy of survivors led by Resident Evil 2 and Code: Veronica star Claire Redfield (an excellent Ali Larter, although sadly not sporting Claire's signature ponytail).

As always, don't expect realism or subtlety here, but do expect Milla Jovovich setting a murder of infected crows on fire telepathically. Because Resident Evil, baby.

Resident Evil: Exitinction is now streaming on Netflix.

Resident Evil: Afterlife has something for everyone: giant axe-wielding monsters! Bissected canines! Cannibalism! Mandible-mouthed zombies! Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield!

Unfortunately it's one of the lower rated films in the Anderson series, but completionists will still want to give it a watch for the campiest Albert Wesker this side of Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is now streaming on Netflix.

Alice continues to team up with assorted members of the Resident Evil universe, with a rather unfortunately-wigged Li Bingbing joining Retribution‘s B.O.W battles as sultry super spy Ada Wong.

Retribution also features the first live-action version of series golden boy Leon S. Kennedy, played by Johann Urb, and Kevin Durand as fan favorite Barry Burton. Michelle Rodriguez, last seen in the first installment of the Anderson series, is also back quite an interesting capacity. Unfortunately, none of these factors are enough to make Retribution a particularly compelling watch but, hey, you've made it this far – may as well see it through to the end.

Boasting a, err, 38% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is officially the highest rated entry in the Anderson series and the highest grossing at the box office, making it a fitting swan song for the saga. Alice gets the gang back together for one final fight against Umbrella and Wesker, although the gang in this case really only means Claire as Leon, Chris, or Jill apparently didn't get the memo.

Hopefully we'll be seeing the latter in more games soon to make up for it right, Capcom? RIGHT?

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is now streaming on Hulu, and available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

When it was announced that Zach Cregger's Resident Evil would be telling a story totally unrelated to the main game, a lot of diehard Resi fans were outraged, seemingly forgetting that we already had a pretty lore-accurate live action Resident Evil movie in Welcome to Raccoon City and guess what – people weren't happy with that, either!

Griping aside, Welcome to Raccoon City is to this day the most direct adaptation of the Resident Evil story, combining the first and second games pretty closely. The core crew of protagonists are here, including Kaya Scodelario as Claire and Avan Jogia as Leon, with the addition of the tragic Resident Evil Remake monster Lisa Trevor.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is now streaming on Hulu.

Not a movie, sure, but Netflix's Resident Evil reboot series deserves a mention on the list for those wanting to check off every adaptation. Although many would argue Resident Evil doesn't count as it takes place in its own universe, there's enough reference to the games to quiet those Resi cravings once you've rinsed everything else available.

Starring the late, great Lance Reddick (who is worth tuning in for, if nothing else), Ella Balinska, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Núñez, Resident Evil expands on the Wesker clone storyline, following the iconic villain's two daughters as they reckon with their father's and Umbrella Corporation's dark secrets.

The first in the Resident Evil animated movie series, Degeneration teams up Raccoon City survivors Leon and Claire again for the first time since that fateful night in 1998. Once again, the threat of the T-virus looms over the pair, but they're a lot more equipped to handle it now.

Resident Evil: Degeneration pretty much sets the tone for the CGI movies going forward – cheesy dialogue, overly convoluted plot, and gloriously animated gore. This one also throws another hat into the ring for the great Who Is Leon's Betrothed debate (although, let's be honest, we all know it's a Redfield). Leave your braincells at the door, and have a good time.

Resident Evil: Degeneration is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

In Resident Evil: Damnation, Leon heads to Eastern Europe and is faced with two terrifying ghosts of his past: the Las Plagas parasite, and Ada Wong.  A big box office hit in Japan, Damnation does what the Resident Evil animated movies do best, heaping on the action and horror with a hefty helping of cheese.

In fact, of all the Resident Evil movies, Damnation feels like the one that could be adapted into game form the most seamlessly. Take our money, Capcom.

Another Resident Evil movie, another virus; this time, our heroes are faced with the deadly Animality Virus that threatens to turn residents of New York City into – you guessed it – mindless, bloodthirsty zombies. Chris and Leon are on the forefront this time round, with the latter wearing his best jacket since Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil: Vendetta also puts the spotlight on one of the series' most underrated stars, Resident Evil 0‘s rising rookie Rebecca Chambers, which makes it worth a watch alone.

In the greatest team up since the Avengers assembled, Resident Evil: Death Island sees the core four of Chris, Leon, Claire and Jill, with bonus Rebecca, unite for the very first time against a formidable foe. The gang head to Alcatraz Island where they must take down former Umbrella merc and bioterrorist Dylan Blake who holds a grudge against the Raccoon City survivors.

Despite being two of the series' most beloved characters, Death Island marks the first time that Leon and Jill ever interact onscreen, which is worth the price of admission alone. Oh, and Chris is wearing a Hawaiian shirt. You're welcome.

Eight years after their horrific ordeal in Raccoon City, Claire and Leon reunite once again to take down an international B.O.W threat in the first Resident Evil series. Set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Infinite Darkness follows the events of Degeneration and was conceived as a way to show what the Resident Evil 2 duo were up to between games.

Infinite Darkness sets up a few interesting cliffhangers that sadly don't seem to be getting expanded on any time soon, so give it a watch and signal to Capcom that we want to see a second season, maybe?

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil is unrelated to any previously known characters, but does take place in the same universe as the games. The pic follows medical courier Bryan (Austin Abrams) who is tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak from a hospital in Raccoon City, and must fight through hordes of mutated creatures to survive.

Cregger being a diehard Resi fan, what we've already seen of his take on the Raccoon City nightmare teases plenty of easter eggs for fans, from typewriters to green herbs, to frustratingly limited ammo available for our hapless protagonist.
