It's almost time to return to Raccoon City as Zach Cregger's Resident Evil hits theaters and IMAX this fall, with Sony today unleashing a brand new bloody trailer for the survival horror:

Starring in Cregger's new take on Capcom's iconic gaming series, Resident Evil stars Austin Abrams (Weapons), Paul Walter Hauser (The Naked Gun), Kali Reis (True Detective) and Zach Cherry (Severance).
Taking place in the same universe of the games but not related to any previously known characters (sorry, Leon S. Kennedy stans) or any of Paul W.S. Anderson's previous Resident Evil movies, Cregger's third feature was co-written with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead).
The pic follows hapless courier Bryan (Abrams) who is tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak from a hospital in Raccoon City, and must fight through hordes of mutated creatures to survive.
Cregger, himself a hardcore Resident Evil fan, previously assured fans of the series that he's played a “shit ton” of the games, notably Resident Evil 4, and given how Bryan is hunting fruitlessly for ammo in drawers in this new trailer, we're inclined to believe him.
The Resident Evil teaser marks the latest development in an already exciting year for Resi fans, who already got to enjoy the record-breaking release of Resident Evil Requiem earlier this year, with a DLC still en route, and the recent news of a Code: Veronica remake.
Resident Evil releases only in theaters and IMAX on September 18. Stay tuned.
