Top Horror Movies Streaming This Week

Curry Barker's film clearly hit a nerve with audiences who could relate to the story. Love is one of the most powerful emotions that a human being can feel, but while love has created a lot of happiness, many terrible things have happened because of a love that someone couldn't or wouldn't control. Michael Johnston, Inde Navarette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter star in the film that shows the terrible ravages of obsessive love.

Of course, the One Wish Willow may not exist, but the story of Bear and his fascination with his female friend that curdles into a terrifying tale of control and desperation gives everyone a glimpse of the extremes of romance.

Obsession is now streaming on Peacock.

Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Gavin Casalegno, and Nico Hiraga star in The Devil's Mouth. It is about a group of friends who are exploring a system of freshwater caves while they are on vacation in Thailand. The group discovers a deadly foe in the calm waters as the terrified members of the group try to find a way to survive and escape.

Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island) directed this survival horror movie, which was written by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner, and scored by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead). It premiered on July 29 on Prime and swam its way into the top ten this week.

The Devil's Mouth is now streaming on Prime.

This Stephen King adaptation, made from one of his pseudonymously published novels as Richard Bachman, that some thought would never be made into a film, is a stealth hit that has enthralled home viewers for 27 weeks and counting. It's been almost seven months since The Long Walk debuted on Starz, and the movie has since moved to HBO Max, which has propelled the all-too-human film back into the top three.

Director Francis Lawrence and screenwriter JT Mollner have given each and every character, even the ones that an audience would usually consider as villains, a humanity that makes them memorable. They show empathy to all, and thus the audience cares about all of the characters and their dreadful fates.

The Long Walk is now streaming on HBO Max.

A chill is seeping through this week's list once again, as director Jonny Campbell's Cold Storage claims an even better spot this week. The horror comedy stars Georgina Campbell, Joe Keery, and Liam Neeson, with appearances by Sosie Bacon, Vanessa Redgrave, and Richard Brake, and is making horror fans at home scream and laugh.

The story of an alien invasion that comes in the form of a gross fungal parasite, which is delivered to Earth by space junk, is based on a book by screenwriter David Koepp, who also penned the screenplay. Koepp, a director in his own right, has written the scripts for Jurassic Park and Disclosure Day and directed the films Stir of Echoes and The Trigger Effect.

Cold Storage is now streaming on Kanopy and MGM+.

A film based on the popular video game, The Exit 8, from Kotake Create is entering its third week in the top ten. Directed by Genki Kawamura, his second feature film, it explores the mind of a man who has been unable to commit to his pregnant ex-girlfriend and take responsibility for his life as he walks the corridors of a seemingly endless train station while he desperately tries to find a way out.

There is a growing number of films in the genre that look at the perspective and the place of fathers in society, especially when those men are confused and angry about the direction their life has taken. Kazunari Ninomiya,  Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, and Nana Komatsu star in this tightly constructed film that has a small cast and limited setting.

Exit 8 is now streaming on AMC+ and Shudder.

Ben the chimpanzee and his terrified adoptive family have returned to the top ten list this week for the first time since June. Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, and Troy Kotsur star in this intense and gory movie directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night).

A college student returns to her family home in Hawaii, an estate built in a remote section of the island, with her friends in tow. Instead of being able to relax among the lush beauty of the island, she finds that the family's pet has started to act strangely and progresses to hideous acts of violence after being infected with rabies.

Primate is now streaming on Paramount+ and Prime.

If you are looking for a new scary movie about a mummy, Lee Cronin's The Mummy may be for you. If you are familiar with Cronin's work, he directed the positively brutal Evil Dead Rise. The Mummy is less a story of ancient romance and adventure, and more of a story about keeping a ferocious demon at bay through the possession of a human being.

It's filled with haunting imagery, like the photo accompanying this entry, and the actors, including an Egyptian actor for what may be the first time in a Mummy film. Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, and Verónica Falcón are well cast. It is gory, gruesome, and ruthless with the characters' fates and their familial connections. It sure isn't an action-adventure romance, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's a film that lands squarely in the horror genre.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy is now streaming on HBO Max.

Russian director Kirill Sokolov's violent horror comedy romp about a Satanic cult that has control of a high-rise building, and everyone in it, has been part of this list for two months officially. The stylish and stylized acrobatic combat between the Satanists and a single ex-con searching for her lost sister definitely appeals to horror fans. It delivers the grue from the multiple deaths of some of the characters.

Zazie Beetz, Myha'la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette star in the film, with the voice of James Remar (Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, Blade: Trinity, The Blackcoat's Daughter) as a Satanically possessed pig head. Yes, the earthly embodiment of the Prince of Darkness in this film is a pig's head.

They Will Kill You is now streaming on HBO Max.

Canadian director Ian Tuason made his feature film debut with Undertone and has also made a great impression on the entertainment industry and horror fans. He has been named as the director of the next film in the Paranormal Activity franchise, Paranormal Activity 8, and is said to be developing a prequel to Undertone, which focuses on the couple in the recordings. The as-yet-unnamed movie is projected as the second part of a planned trilogy.

Nina Kiri, Michèle Duquet, Adam DiMarco, Keana Lyn Bastidas, Sarah Beaudin, Brian Quintero, and Jeff Yung play both the flesh and blood actors on screen and the disembodied voices of characters that may or may not be real.

Undertone is now streaming on HBO Max.

The film that was at the forefront of the IMAX and IMAX 70mm wave in 2025 keeps coming back to life on this list, and it's not a shocking development. Ever since the incredible success of Ryan Coogler's film about the blues, art, vampires, racism, and love, among other topics, audiences have been actively seeking out films on the big screen and movies made with IMAX cameras.

Of course, Sinners didn't originate the interest, since Christopher Nolan has also made immensely successful films in the IMAX format, but Sinners kicked open the door to many other films, including horror movies, starting to use the format during production or being screened in premium formats. Sinners has created not just an interest, but has also opened up an audience for mainstream films to be projected in the biggest and most breathtaking ways possible.
