Despite the fact that we’ve already had three shark thrillers hit our screens this year, Prime Video has arrived with another one. They’ve just released the trailer for The Devil’s Mouth, a new survival horror film starring Kathryn Newton, which sounds kind of like an aquatic version of The Descent — i.e., friends hanging around in the creepiest caves you’ve ever seen.
Directed by Jeff Wadlow from a script by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner, The Devil’s Mouth also stars Lana Condor, Gavin Casalegno, Nico Hiraga, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong. The group stars as a gang of college friends on a trip to Thailand who make the ill-advised choice to explore a freshwater cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth, because that’s absolutely the kind of place you want to go without any kind of diving certification or real guide.

It’s there that they’re greeted by the real trouble: a massive bull shark that attacks one of them, leaving the rest trapped with a gigantic predator and no way out. Or at least, not one that they can see, as Condor screams about sharks invading a freshwater ecosystem. (Sorry, girl. Bull sharks thrive in any water, this one’s on you.)
The Devil’s Mouth is produced by Wadlow alongside Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Carsten Lorenz, and Will Flynn, with Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi overseeing the film for Lionsgate. It’s a bit late to the game though, as three shark attack films have already graced streaming this year, including Netflix’s Thrash, Chum, and Renny Harlin’s Deep Water. And with less than a hundred unprovoked shark attacks happening in the real world in the last year, it feels like we might be chumming the waters a bit too much with these, y’all.
The Devil’s Mouth premieres on Prime Video on July 29.
