Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's time in The Conjuring universe may have come to a close with Last Rites, but Warner Bros. isn't ready to say goodbye to the demon hunting duo just yet, with the upcoming prequel film, The Conjuring: First Communion, officially announcing leads today.

Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon, The Long Walk) and Amanda Fix (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma) will officially portray Ed and Lorraine Warren in their younger days in the pic currently scheduled for a September 10, 2027 theatrical release.

Rodrigue Huart (Réel) directs First Communion from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), with Deadline confirming that Peter Safran is producing for the Safran Company with the label’s John Rickard, Natalia Safran, and Romel Adam executive producing.

A continuation of The Conjuring world should come as no surprise when you consider that collectively, the nine film franchise, including spin-offs like Annabelle and The Nun, has earned $2.7 billion globally, making it the most successful horror franchise of all time. This new prequel isn’t the only new installment planned for the franchise. A television series is also in the works, with Nancy Won serving as showrunner and Cameron Squires and Peter Cameron serving as writers after their stint with Disney on WandaVision and Agatha All Along. Plot details are, once again, being kept under wraps, though Peter Safran and franchise creator James Wan will executive produce the series.

Controversial as they were, the real life Warrens had no shortage of scary stories to tell, so we can't see Warner Bros. exorcising the series for a good long while.

Look out for more on First Communion as we get it.
