The new title takes inspiration from the anthologies aspect of certain Pre-Code horror comics titles. Each issue of Testaments of Terror will feature a regular-sized one-shot story and at least one separate backup story. Written by Adam Barnhardt and drawn by David Hutajulu, Testaments of Terror #1 brings us Bloodwake: Breaking the Abyss. We’ve got the cover art and some preview pages below for you to check out.

Launching in early July, the story is like if the Creature From the Black Lagoon were a tribal warrior that stalked a summer camp ala Friday the 13th. Bloodwake is underwater royalty who is exiled from his homeland, resulting in a summer camp slasher with the sea creature right in the midst of the bloodshed. Barnhardt had this to say about it:

“Thalassophobia is arguably my biggest phobia, and although I didn’t happen to write this in the middle of a lake or the ocean, writing Bloodwake has stoked more than enough panic attacks for my psyche.

“I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of superheroes and gore,” Hutajulu added. “With Bloodwake I got the chance to explore something that I always wanted to do before. Readers can expect a bloody, high-octane ride that stays with them long after they close the book.”

Testaments of Terror #2 will launch  next in late summer featuring a story called Harrow: Feast in the Furrow. We’ve also got the cover art and some preview pages for the story below.  This one is also written by Barnhardt with art by Michel Abstracto.

This one centers on a scarecrow possessed by a Midwestern settler, sort of calling to mind Scarecrow: The Reaping from Universal Horror Unleashed. The tale is a sweaty murder mystery that the anti-hero scarecrow winds up embroiled in, with a murder of crows who’ve seemingly managed to form a human body to do their bidding serving as the lead suspect.

“Within the Summit Universe, we take the idea of crows being afraid of scarecrows to the extreme,” Barnhardt said of this one. “Feast in the Furrow is very much a combination of monstrous body horror and by way of those miserable dog days of summer, and Michel nails the tone through the artwork.”
