F.W. Murnau's 1922 Expressionist film is considered an influential piece of horror.

Alamo Drafthouse is partnering with GroundUP Music to present a five-week-long series of silent films reimagined. GroundUP artists have created and recorded brand new scores for each film in the series, including Nosferatu and The Lost World. For the 100th anniversary of Nosferatu, Snarky Puppy’s Bob Lanzetti composed a brand new original score. We also celebrated the Centennial ghoul in our latest issue #14 with a look back on the enduring legacy of the ghoulish bloodsucker. If inspiring new music and new art one hundred years later isn’t an argument for evident immortality, we don’t know what is.

Our pasty fanged boy isn’t the only work being revived for this series, the GroundUP Music x Alamo Drafthouse presentation kicks off February 20th with three short films set to the musical stylings of House of Waters and runs through March 20th culminating with Aelita: Queen of Mars accompanied by a new score from Snarky Puppy’s Chris Bullock.

The five GroundUP Music artists and film pairings include:

  • House of Waters with three silent shorts – MENILMONTANT (1926), LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE (1902), and BALLET MECANIQUE (1923)
  • Sirintip with THE LOST WORLD (1925)
  • PRD Mais with WAXWORKS (1924)
  • Snarky Puppy’s Bob Lanzetti with NOSFERATU (1922) celebrating its 100 year anniversary
  • Snarky Puppy’s Chris Bullock with AELITA: QUEEN OF MARS
