People think of fairytales as innocent and harmless, but they’ve forgotten their darker, tragic roots. Directing duo Hana Mae Lee and Hal Satin are heading back to those roots with Magick Mtn, a Laurel Canyon-set horror film that just released its first trailer ahead of its premiere at Fantastic Fest this week.
Written and directed by Lee and Satin, Magick Mtn stars Ashton Hirota, Monica Lamela, Jose Herrasti, Jae Lee, Miriam Ataya, Ron Reihel, Ben Price, Daniel Adkins, Ozmodeus Le Preem, and Jane Dough. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Lord Mmorke, a tepid and ghoulish narrator, walks us through 3 separate fables all intersecting in a realm beyond the tangible. Rituals and retellings about a Deathrock squatter jailed by a sadistic psychiatrist and the evils of regret, a pair of criminal plumbers plunging further towards Hell's grips and the beer-soaked leather of the Sunset Strip, and an architect's ambition built on the shaky bedrock of the Devil's promise. What begins as a tale ends in a spell cast upon unsuspecting characters and audiences alike.
Magick Mtn is produced by Lee and Satin, with executive producers James Cullen Bressack, Brian Perera, and Yvonne Perera, with co-producers Tim Yasui, Hirota, and Le Preem. The film features a soundtrack by Eva O, Super Heroines, Rozz Williams, Voyeur, Resist and Exist, and Aleister Crowley, and costumes by Ashton Michael
Magick Mtn premieres at Fantastic Fest on September 22, before coming to theaters on October 13.
