That damn doll just canโt stay dead, it seems. In the wake of Chuckyโs cancellation on USA and SYFY, Shudder has revealed the first trailer for their upcoming docuseries Doc of Chucky, which takes a look at the legacy of the titular killer doll and his life throughout the Childโs Play franchise, featuring some familiar faces along the way to highlight his bloody and complicated history.
Premiering on the platform on November 1, Doc of Chucky takes a similar approach to Crystal Lake Memories, another docuseries produced by the same team which takes a long-form look at the history and iconography of the Friday the 13th franchise. Told over five hours, Doc of Chucky will explore the odd little doll and his relationship with horror history, featuring input from franchise stars and icons like Don Mancini, Jennifer Tilly, Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, John Waters, Fiona Dourif, Perrey Reeves, Gerrit Graham, David Krischner, and of course, the man behind the manic little doll himself, Brad Dourif.
Directed by Thommy Huston, the series is also set to feature input from critics, historians, and other experts, as well as never before seen clips, interviews, photographs, and archival documents to fully explore just where Chucky fits into slasher history. Itโs the second documentary specifically focused on the Childโs Play franchise to have come out in the last few years, after 2022โs Living With Chucky, told from the perspective of Kyra Elise Gardner, daughter of Tony Gardner, who worked on the various Chucky puppets across multiple installments of the franchise.
Chucky first slashed his way to screen in 1988โs Childโs Play, where criminal Charles Lee Ray transferred his consciousness into that of a Good Guy doll brought home by an innocent single mother. His legacy continued through six more sequels, including Bride of Chucky, which brought Tillyโs iconic Tiffany Valentine into the fray. After 2017โs Cult of Chucky, he then moved to television, where Chucky ran for three seasons before recently being cancelled.
Doc of Chucky hits Shudder on November 1. Check out the trailer below:
