ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES (1978)

1978 parody horror Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is getting a fresh coat of red paint with upcoming reboot Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, from director David Ferino (Wardcliffe).

The fifth film in the Killer Tomatoes series stars David Koechner (Anchorman, Final Destination 5), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier, Return to Nuke Em High),  Daniel Roebuck (The Munsters, Terrifier 3), Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Vernee Watson (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and Oscar nominee Eric Roberts.

John Astin (Gomez from the original Addams Family and European Vacation) will return as Professor Gangreen, his role from Return of the Killer Tomatoes, Killer Tomatoes Strike Back and Killer Tomatoes Eat France.

Made for just $100,000, the original Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was directed by John DeBello from an original idea by Costa Dillon. As the title suggests, the film followed the fallout of mutated killer tomatoes and the group of scientists trying to reign them back in.

Per Deadline, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is billed as โ€œpitting the eternal power of nature against AIโ€™s best and brightest.โ€

Anchor Bay Entertainment (Abruptio) is handling distribution on Organic Intelligence, with plans for a limited theatrical release timed to this Halloween.

Thomas Zambeck, CEO of Anchor Bay, had this to say about bringing the Z-movie horror back to life:

โ€œWeโ€™re proud to be bringing back a franchise with this much cultural DNA […] Organic Intelligence is fresh, funny, weird, and self-aware โ€” just the kind of beautifully chaotic project that fits our mission. Killer Tomatoes are ripe for reinvention.โ€

Look out for more on Killer Tomatoes as updates roll in.
