Dangerous Animals, the sharks-meet-serial-killer thriller from Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones, The Devil's Candy), is swimming onto screens for the very first time at Alamo Draftouse Cinema's upcoming Great Bites season, a retrospective series of wild (and often wet) animal thriller films.
Written by Nick Lepard, Dangerous Animals stars Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Hassie Harrison (Yellowstone) and Josh Heuston (Dune: Prophecy), and hits theaters wide on June 6 via IFC Films and Shudder. In the film:
[โฆ] Zephyr (Harrison), a rebellious surfer who is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer (Courtney). Held captive on his boat โ she must escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below. The only person who realizes she is missing is new love interest Moses (Hueston), who goes looking for Zephyr, only to be caught by the deranged murderer as well.
Dangerous Animals On The Water will include a live Q&A with Byrne and Harrison, as well as photo ops and a fireworks finale. The event takes place on Saturday, May 31st at Volente Beach Resort and Waterpark in Austin, TX. Tickets and further info is available here.
Naturally, the Great Bites series has to start with the movie that began it all, and so Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is hosting 50th anniversary celebrations of Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws, presented by the Texas Lottery. Jaws On The Water, the immersive screening experience where a huge inflatable outdoor screen is placed at the waterโs edge with intrepid viewers watching the movie while floating in inner tubes (gulp), takes place on June 7th and 21st, July 12th and 26th at Volente Beach Resort and Waterpark in Leander, TX. Snap up your tickets right here.
For those who want an interactive Jaws experience while staying on dry land, the Jaws Movie Party is coming to Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide, where guests can participate in a contest and receive exclusive props to help bring Jaws to life, as well as enjoy a special Jaws-themed menu. Learn more here.
PLUS, those who want to hear Jaws iconic score in the flesh can catch Jaws in Concert on Saturday, June 21 on Martha's Vineyard, the filming location for the fictional Amity Island, at Winnetu Oceanside Resort, where the score is performed by the Cape Cod symphony, and guests can cow down on New England cuisine including lobster rolls and clam chowder, as well as enjoy photo ops, and limited edition Jaws 50th anniversary merch. Tickets available here.
Alongside Dangerous Animals and Jaws, Alamo Drafthouse's Great Bites film series will screen a host other shark-inspired films, with Piranha (1978), The Shallows (2016), Alligator (1980), Deep Blue Sea (1999) and Grizzly (1976) all screening at locations across Texas from July 1 to 30, with tickets available here.
