With Shark Week just around the corner, we’re excited to partner with the folks at CREATORVC to premiere the trailer for their latest documentary, Jaws Explored, diving into the history of the 1975 classic directed by Steven Spielberg. Yes, it’s another Jaws documentary, but you’ll need a bigger boat to handle this one.

Written and directed by Ian Nathan, who also helmed the company’s documentaries on Aliens and The Thing, Jaws Explored dissects the shark attack classic moment by moment, featuring fresh perspectives from acclaimed filmmakers, critics, and experts. No news about who will be involved in the film has been announced, but given that CREATORVC’s other films have landed names like Kurt Russell and Guillermo del Toro, expect an all-star cast.

“There is something insanely ambitious about Jaws Explored and I wouldn’t want it any other way,” says Nathan. “This is a documentary attempting the impossible — to reintroduce you to a lifelong friend. To transform your very understanding of Spielberg’s masterpiece. This is not simply a documentary about Jaws, this is an entirely new way of exploring film. What a challenge. What a thrill. I am so excited to be onboard. Time to cast off and head for the deep water.”

Jaws Explored is just the latest in a long line of documentaries produced by CREATORVC that explore the history and impact of cinema’s most beloved horror films. Alongside The Thing Expanded and Aliens Expanded, they’re also responsible for the In Search of Darkness series, chronicling horror history decade by decade, as well as Slasher Trash, about the history of horror’s most defining subgenre.

Jaws Explored represents a bold new documentary format, one that will deepen the relationship between the most passionate fans of Jaws and the film itself,” says CREATORVC’s Robin Block. “We're going deeper than ever before, redefining what this movie is and seeing it through an entirely new lens, guided by some of the most talented filmmakers and experts in the world. I couldn't be more excited about this project. I believe it will be something truly special.”

Jaws Explored is available for preorder now, and will arrive sometime next summer — just in time for fishing season.
