The October list of the best new horror movies to stream is finally here. While you are decorating your lair with care and planning your party or your costumes, you can also plan ahead by finding your favorite scary movies and discovering some of the most terrifying flicks to watch when you finally sit down to relax with a big bowl of popcorn or candy. Yes, it is also officially time for candy corn.
Netflix has added 24 titles, including the premiere of a monstrous miniseries starring Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Natasha Henstridge, and Rohan Campbell called Below, which won't be released until October 8. For fans of gothic horror romance, Netflix brings Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak, starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, and Tom Hiddleston, and the John Badham-directed adaptation of Dracula from 1979, which stars Frank Langella, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, Jan Francis, and Kate Nelligan. For some unknown reason, it switches the character names of Lucy and Mina to different characters, but Lawrence Olivier is in it, so that's a surprise that makes more sense. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies add more costume drama to the mix.

For the more classic tastes, all three of the Psycho films, The Strangers, Evil Dead, The Sixth Sense, Split, culinary and tech bro nightmare The Menu, and Happy Death Day 2U will also be available on Netflix this month.
Prime is pairing movies, the classic film with a remake, with movies such as the 1979 and 2005 versions of The Amityville Horror, 1935's The Bride of Frankenstein, and 2026's The Bride!, Child's Play (1988) and Child's Play (2019). You will also have such great choices as Dark Harvest, Tobe Hooper's gorgeously wild Lifeforce, Ari Aster's Midsommar, and Hereditary, the haunting Stir of Echoes, the Chiodo Brothers' classic Killer Clowns from Outer Space, found footage terror, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and Russell Crowe's first possession movie, The Pope's Exorcist.

Shudder is locked and loaded for its Season of Screams, with the premiere of V/H/S Mixtape, a new direction in the found footage series based on the theme of music and the human body as an instrument. It features segments by Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, Bones, some of the best episodes of The Walking Dead: Alone, Coda, Beside the Dying Fire, Seed, Welcome to the Tombs), who directs The Music of Mr. SZE, RZA, with a gory studio session, Death Tone, with a terror-rific performance from Neela Jolene, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, directed by Renee Zhan with a villainous, yet glamorous turn by horror queen Barbara Crampton, the terrifyingly claustrophobic Heartbeat, by David Moreau (Them and MaDs), Flying Lotus' animated segment Another Cabin, and Tobias Forge aka Ghost's segment Premature Burial.
The wrap segment has lots of GWAR and flying fluids. The newest V/H/S film will be unleashed on October 6 during a six-movie marathon watch party. The full Shudder Season of Screams watch party line-up is stacked, with eight watch parties in total, one of which is a double header, including a brand-spanking-new episode of Joe Bob Briggs' The Last Drive In, Joe Bob's Halloween House Party, and five new film premieres: Infirmary, V/H/S Mixtape, Hallowarrior, starring Hereditary‘s Milly Shapiro in a post-apocalyptic tale that had its West Coast theatrical premiere at Beyond Fest, The Cycle, recommended by Stephen King, and Spider One's Big Baby on Devil's Night. While you are at it, don't miss The Car, a quality fright film from the 1970s with an artsy touch from director Elliot Silverstein (Cat Ballou). Fangoria's Chainsaw Awards will be broadcast on Shudder this month, revealing all of this year's winners that you voted for, as well as Etheria Film Night 2026, with eight fright film shorts from female horror directors that will stream starting on October 15 through November 13.

Feast your eyes on Shudder's full watch party list. Yes, it's party time:

Friday, October 9: V/H/S/Marathon” Watch Party – V/H/S/Mixtape, V/H/S/Halloween, V/H/S/Beyond, V/H/S/85, V/H/S/99 and V/H/S/94

HBO Max has three premieres in October: Evil Dead Burn and Strange: Junji Ito’s Tales for Sleepless Nights on October 2, and The Housemaid, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, on October 9. You can find six movies from the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and William Castle's House on Haunted Hill. Castle was a showman of a director who would probably nod approvingly at the type of promotions we see in 2026, like The Last House‘s billboard that housed a man pretending to be trapped for the film's entire opening weekend or Ken Russell's The Devils' standee that shouts a key line of dialogue from the film, “Confess!!!” at patrons at the AMC 16 in Burbank, CA.
You can also watch William Friedkin's The Exorcist, Tobe Hooper's Poltergeist, and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. They are not Halloween-themed, but they are undeniable classics.

Screambox has given audiences the gift of streaming one of maestro Lucio Fulci's wildest creations: Murder-Rock: Dancing Death, a blend of Fulci-style Giallo and Flashdance among 78 other scary movies. Tobe Hooper pops in for a third time this month with one of his lesser-known films, Spontaneous Combustion, featuring an “unhinged” performance from Brad Dourif. As we all know, everything improves when Brad Dourif is even more frenzied than normal in a movie. The Giant Spider Invasion is exactly what is advertised. Prepare to see what might have seemed impossible, but Screambox is streaming Identikit, aka The Driver's Seat, an Italian production that stars no less of a celebrity actress than Elizabeth Taylor. Yes, that Elizabeth Taylor. One could hold that Suddenly, Last Summer is a horror movie (cannibalism, an attempted forced lobotomy), but we don't know if everyone is ready for that conversation.

Paramount+ is releasing the first episode of the second season of Dexter: Resurrection on Devil's Night, aka October 30, along with Drag Me to Hell, Doctor Sleep, and It Follows. Dexter: Resurrection is not only a continuation of the anti-hero serial killer's story, but horror stars David Dastmalchian, Barbara Crampton, and Brian Cox join the show this season. Not as many as some streaming services, but some fantastic eerie selections for a dark October night. It's really nice to see Devil's Night being celebrated more and more this year.
Peacock weighs in with 69 movies for the scary season, including the new zombie apocalypse classic Train to Busan and its underappreciated sequel Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula, on the heels of the release of Yeon Sang-ho's newest killer film, Colony. The Omen, the first three Scream movies, all three Blade movies, the better to celebrate before the vampire rave, Death Becomes Her, and Event Horizon are other films you won't want to miss this month. The streamer will also premiere the new series Crystal Lake, a prequel to Friday the 13th, starring Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason Voorhees. The first two episodes of the series were screened as a teaser at Beyond Fest, and it will be most interesting to see where this new series takes the story.
Hulu is unleashing Hokum, acclaimed Irish director Damian McCarthy's latest fright flick, and The Substance, and has the premiere of Soulm8te, a spin-off from the horror hit M3GAN. Screambox has quite a few films exclusive to their service, including The Buildout, Dark My Light, Noclip, Noclip 2: Return to Lunchland, Noclip 3: The Chattanooga Syndrome, which is a series of experimental found footage films for all of the found footage fans who love to explore films that haven't gotten a lot of press, and Remote. Checking out the selections on services like Bloodstream that program experimental and obscure films is a great way to expand your knowledge as a true fan of horror.
