FANGORIA is proud to exclusively debut the first trailer for Zombois, the provocative new LGBTQ+ comedy from writer-director Garrett Abdo, starring Brenna D’Amico (Disney’s Descendants), Thomas Dekker (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Kaboom), Daria Rae Berenato (WWE’s Sonya Deville), and Tuc Watkins (Desperate Housewives, Paradise). What happens when decades of buried desires, dark secrets, and sexual repression finally come crawling out of the closet? They come back hungry.

Zombois, the follow-up to Abdo’s award-winning feature Exit Interviews, follows a group of college seniors hoping for one last unforgettable getaway before graduation. Deep in the North George mountains, what should be a weekend of youthful freedom decidedly takes a nasty turn when the group stumbles upon a long-guarded secret and a mysterious contagion. Before long, an unexpected breed of monsters derails their plans for one last celebration: GAY ZOMBIES!

If the premise alone hasn't caught your attention, the film promises plenty of blood, over-the-top humor, and a few ravenous corpses. Scott Storm of Creative Content and Josh Olsen of Heart Sleeve created the exclusive trailer, which you can watch below, but be warned: it's definitely rated R.

Sexy, savage, and wickedly funny, Zombois mixes horror-comedy with a darker examination of repression, identity, and the consequences of forcing people to hide who they really are. The premise leaves plenty of room for the ridiculous, over-the-top mayhem horror fans love, while giving the story something more substantial to sink its teeth into. After all, using the undead to explore what happens when the things people try hardest to bury refuse to stay buried feels particularly fitting.

According to Abdo, the goal was to create an unapologetically entertaining midnight movie that embraces the absurdity of its premise without losing sight of the horror, heart, and uncomfortable truths underneath it. I adored the fusion of zombie mythology and queer themes in Tina Romero’s Queens of the Dead, so it's safe to say Zombois is speaking my language. Give me a horror movie willing to get weird with its monsters and its sense of humor, and I'm seated.

“I wanted to make something completely outrageous — a movie where audiences could scream, laugh, and occasionally wonder what the hell they were watching,” Abdo says. “But underneath all the blood and insanity is a simple idea: when you force people to bury who they really are, eventually something is going to claw its way out.”

Horror has always had a knack for turning anxieties into monsters, and a story about repression taking a literal bite out of people is right at home in the genre. Blending practical horror, extravagant characters, dark humor, and a decidedly queer perspective, Zombois aims to deliver the unpredictable, crowd-pleasing experience audiences live for. Because, as the team tells us, “In Zombois, being young and hung might just put you on the menu.”

Zombois reunites Abdo with Exit Interviews cast members Watkins, Dekker, and Adam Huss (General Hospital, Power), a clear sign that the collaborative relationships established during his first feature are holding strong. Joining the ensemble are social media sensation Aaron Goldenberg, Derek Delafonte, Jonathan Tanigaki, Paul Zenas, Brenna Skalski, and Luke Smith. Glendon Palmer, Garrett Abdo, Michael Buttigleri, Brian Yuran, and Osvaldo Silvera Jr. produced the film. The latter also served as the film's director of photography, with Jeremy O’Keefe handling casting.

With its blend of queer storytelling, zombie carnage, and raucous energy, Zombois looks ready to bring a different kind of appetite to the undead subgenre. Whether you're here for the horror, the comedy, or the promise of gay zombies wreaking havoc in the Georgia mountains, there's certainly no shortage of reasons to keep this one on your radar.
