Top Horror Movies Streaming This Week

The movie that made wishes scary again is back at number one for the fifth week in a row.  Writer and director Curry Barker will be making more films after the fantastic success of Obsession. It was announced in April that he would be writing and directing a reboot of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for A24, and in June, it was announced that Barker would be writing, directing, and producing another new film for Universal and working with producers James Wan and Jason Blum.

Michael Johnston, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter star in Obsession, along with Inde Navarette, a former Twitch and YouTube gaming streamer who gave one of 2025's most lauded performances in Obsession, and who has been announced as part of the cast in the upcoming Invertigo, an upcoming horror movie that is to be directed by Jake Schreier.

Obsession is now streaming on Peacock.

Second, for the second week in a row, director Louis Leterrier's film The Last House continues to do very well as a streaming-only release on Netflix. Even after the publicity from the “Living Billboard” has wound down, the story seems to be resonating with the audience. Screenwriter Matthew Robinson penned the script and was also the writer on Gore Verbinski's wild anti-AI film, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. If you ever wanted to see someone crunched by a giant cat, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die might be the movie for you.

Greta Lee and Wagner Moura star in the film in which a family finds themselves trapped in their own home by an unknown force with diminishing options as their food and other supplies run low.  They find that their neighbors are trapped too and must find a way to survive this very strange and terrifying new reality.

The Last House is now streaming on Netflix.

The week's list is three for three for the scary movies in the top spots. In a never-before-achieved feat, the same movies have kept their places on the list for the second week in a row in the same order. The Long Walk continues to win over the streaming audience with the savage yet humanistic story that unfolds under the guidance of director Francis Lawrence and screenwriter JT Mollner.

Lawrence has experience with dystopian tales of young people who are part of a deadly competition before with The Hunger Games series; he directed The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2. The film assembles a spectacular cast doing great work on a film that was filmed in sequence. Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Joshua Odjick, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill are the actors who brought pain and pathos to the film.

The Long Walk is now streaming on HBO Max.

The comedic horror film about a rampaging fungus from the stars, Cold Storage, continues to represent fungal horror in 2026. Georgina Campbell, Joe Keery, Liam Neeson, Sosie Bacon,  Dame Vanessa Redgrave, and Richard Brake are the actors in this story of two guards of a storage facility who find themselves on the front lines against a goopy alien invasion.

Directed by Johnny Campbell and with a script written by David Koepp, who adapted his own novel of the same name into a screenplay that involves backpack nukes, exploding animals, and, in a crucial moment, a back problem putting a hero in danger.

Cold Storage is now streaming on Hoopla, Kanopy, and MGM+.

Canadian director Pascal Plante's chilling film, Red Rooms, about a fashion model, Kelly-Anne, who attends the trial of a man, Ludovic Chevalier, who is accused of murdering three girls in a “red room,” or a dark web chat room where people pay to watch real snuff films. She befriends one of the accused killer's “fans,” Clementine, who believes wholeheartedly in his innocence. You watch as Kelly-Anne's motives become clear through her actions.

Juliette Gariépy, Laurie Babin, Elisabeth Locas, Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, Natalie Tannous, Pierre Chagnon, and Guy Thauvette star in this film that has returned to the top ten after a year and a half, when it last was seen in the top ten during the week of February 24, 2025. Red Rooms has a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was originally released to streaming on Shudder in January 2025.

Red Rooms is now streaming on AMC+, Prime, and Shudder.

Another film from the past has also returned to the top horror movies streaming this week, this time from 2024. Immaculate stars Sydney Sweeney, who became a producer on the film, Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli, and Simona Tabasco, and was directed by Michael Mohan. In it, a novice nun in Italy finds herself mysteriously pregnant and suspects the worst from the people who surround her in the convent.

The last time that Immaculate was in the top ten was the week of September 2, 2024. Since it was added to Netflix, it has shot back into the list of the most popular scary movies, from out of nowhere. Such is the power of Netflix's streaming audience.

Immaculate is now streaming on Kanopy and Netflix.

The psychological horror film, based on the video game The Exit 8,  was directed by Genki Kawamura (A Hundred Flowers) and stars Kazunari Ninomiya,  Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, and Nana Komatsu. The film takes a look at the mind and life of The Lost Man, played by Ninomiya, as he is stuck in an endless loop and forced to pay attention to the details to find a way out.

The Lost Man is lost in more ways than one and is given a lot of time to think about the actions he has taken and those that he hasn't, which have led to the unhappiness in his life. The film has a similar theme to other horror films, like Train to Busan, which is back in theaters now, where men are forced to reckon with their roles as fathers and partners by terrifying events that jolt them out of their complacency.

Exit 8 is now streaming on AMC+ and Shudder.

After a week away from the top ten, Russian/Ukrainian director Kirill Sokolov's stylized and stylish comedy horror movie They Will Kill You is back to slaughter Satan's minions over and over again. Zazie Beetz, Myha'la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette star in the film, with Beetz giving a starmaking performance as Asia Reaves, who will do anything to protect and reunite with her sister, Maria, after being released from prison.

Sokolov's style is described as “a mix of visceral horror and sharp humor, ” and he earned a master’s degree in the physics and technology of nanostructures before becoming a director. The film has richly colored sets and violent hijinks, but is based on the relationship between the two sisters, one of whom made a huge sacrifice to save her sister.

They Will Kill You is now streaming on HBO Max.

As the release date of Zach Cregger's reboot of Resident Evil on September 18 approaches, the first collaboration between the writer and director, and actor  Austin Abrams, pops back onto the list. Weapons is still streaming on two of the biggest streaming services, so the film remains in demand among fans streaming at home, even slightly over a year since the film was first released in theaters.

Abrams was the one actor who stayed with Weapons after most of the actors from the first version of the cast had gone on to other projects.  Abrams said, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “I loved the part, and I didn't wanna let it go. So I just really held on 'cause I really wanted to do it.”

Weapons is now streaming on HBO Max and Prime.
