People usually lose their memories when they’re drunk, but Tubi is putting a different spin on things. The free streamer released the first images from their upcoming horror comedy Buzzkill, where a party girl sets out to solve a mystery that she can only remember when she’s blasted.
Directed by Jem Garrard from a script by Suzanne Keilly, Buzzkill stars Siena Agudong alongside Final Destination: Bloodlines star Brec Bassinger and influencer Aliyah’s Interlude. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
When a group of sorority sisters find themselves trapped with a vengeful killer, party-girl Nora knows that the drunker she gets, the more her tipsy memories start revealing clues about who’s murdering her friends. But she’d better hurry, or her next vodka soda might be her last call.
“I loved Suzanne’s script and was excited by her spin on the slasher genre,” says Garrard. “Nora isn’t your traditional final girl, she screws up constantly and is spectacularly ill-equipped for what’s happening around her, but we never stop rooting for her. Siena has incredible comic instincts and brings so much heart to Nora. I couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble, everyone brought such a distinct energy to their character and I’m excited for audiences to meet this lovable, dysfunctional sorority. It’s a movie to watch with friends, andI hope audiences have as much fun watching the chaos unfold as we had making it.”
Best known for starring in Netflix’s Resident Evil series, Buzzkill is Agudong's third Tubi original film, after she starred in the romantic comedy Sidelined: The QB and Me and its sequel. The new horror comedy arrives just ahead of her starring role in Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series, where she plays the bully-turned-sympathetic side character Sue Snell.
“When I first met with our director to talk about Buzzkill, they gave me a watchlist full of horror classics and told me to get familiar with the genre tropes…because we planned to push the limits of each one” Agudong says. “So on the day, we were all given so much freedom to play, and that was the most exciting part. Every day, it felt like we were coming to set just to make a movie that would make us giggle, and now having the film come out, it feels like we are reliving our inside jokes but with a much larger group of friends.
Buzzkill premieres on Tubi on September 25.
