Ahead of playing Fantasia International Film Festival and London's FrightFest, we're bringing you an exclusive clip of The Serpent's Skin, the sixth feature from filmmaking sensation Alice Maio Mackay (T Blockers, Carnage for Christmas, Bad Girl Boogey).
Produced by Dark Star Pictures, who will also distribute the film in 2026, The Serpent's Skin is a supernatural romance with nods to The Craft, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed, with Mackay bringing her signature blend of visceral horror, vibrant aesthetics and a deeply personal, punk spirit, all through a trans lens.
Starring Alexandra McVicker (Vice Principals), Scott Major (Heartbreak High), Charlotte Chimes (Neighbours) and Jordan Dulieu (Before Dawn), The Serpent's Skin follows Anna after she escapes from her small, transphobic town, and the romantic relationship she develops with another young woman, a goth tattoo artist named Gen. After unwittingly unleashing a demon that begins feeding on their friends, the pair need to face their insecurities in order to defeat evil.
Providing cameos in the film are Avalon Fast (Honeycomb), Joe Lynch (Suitable Flesh) and Betsey Brown (Assholes). The People's Joker‘s Vera Drew returns as editor following previously collaborating with Mackay on Carnage for Christmas, and Castration Movie‘s Louise Weard produces.
Those attending Fantasia can see The Serpent's Skin on July 23 and 25, and those at FrightFest can catch it on August 25 at 6:15pm on Discovery Screen One. Check out our exclusive clip below:
