Now that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning and filming is underway, the highly anticipated fourth Mummy movie finally has a title. Universal Pictures revealed that the upcoming film, which hits theaters next fall, is titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead, tying the new sequel back to where it all started.

The new installment in the franchise, the first since 2008’s poorly-received Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, is directed by Radio Silence from a script by David Coggeshall. Both Fraser and Weisz are set to reprise their roles as the O’Connells — Weisz’s first appearance in the franchise since 2001 — with original stars Oded Fehr, Kevin J. O’Connor, and John Hannah also returning for an undead family reunion.

Book of the Dead is also set to star Obsession’s Michael Johnston, alongside fellow newcomer Numan Acar. Plot details are being kept under wraps, so we aren’t sure who either of them will be playing — my bet is on Johnston playing the O’Connells’ son Alex, who last appeared in a pivotal role in The Mummy Returns.

While we don’t know exactly what the plot of the film is yet, we do know that it’s a direct sequel to the second film, completely disregarding the events of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which replaced Weisz with Maria Bello and was widely panned by critics and audience alike. Book of the Dead is produced by original franchise producer Sean Daniel, alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein.

The Mummy: Book of the Dead hits theaters on October 15, 2027. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
