Just one short day after announcing the series, MGM+ is expanding the cast of their upcoming series The Black Tapes. Sosie Bacon, a member of one of horror’s finest acting dynasties, just joined the series that also stars Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Based on the popular podcast series of the same name, The Black Tapes is written and executive produced by Terry Miles and Paul Bae, who originally created the audio-only series. Per MGM+, the logline of their version is as follows:
Dr. Richard Strand, a brilliant psychiatrist with a mysterious past, teams with the obsessed, relentless scientist Alex Regan to debunk paranormal cases of hauntings, possessions, disappearances, and sinister legends – the infamous black tapes. But as Strand and Regan unravel the secrets of these events, they uncover a hidden occult world behind our own and must unravel a centuries-old apocalyptic conspiracy.
Bacon co-stars as Regan, a “brilliant, methodical physicist who joins the investigation of The Black Tapes as a debunker, but quickly finds her very scientific training means she can’t ignore the mounting evidence that these mysteries involve something beyond the natural world.”
Filming on The Black Tapes is set to begin in Vancouver early next year. The series is produced by Kearie Peak, John Rogers, and Jennifer Court, alongside Miles and Bae.
“I was an early and passionate fan of The Black Tapes podcast,” says Rogers. “It's a unique blend of truly unsettling horror and puzzle-box conspiracy mystery. With Paul and Terry not just executive producing, but also in the writer’s room, we have a chance to both bring The Black Tapes to a new generation of genre fans and deepen and expand the mythos in ways that will surprise long-time supernatural horror fans.”
No release date has been set for The Black Tapes. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
