Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is set to lead MGM+'s The Black Tapes, an upcoming eight-episode series adaptation of the hit horror podcast of the same name.
Following its premiere in 2015, Terry Miles and Paul Bae's The Black Tapes has racked up over 60 million downloads over the course of its three seasons. The podcast within a podcast follows the work of paranormal investigator Dr. Richard Strand (who'll be played by Coster-Waldau).
An official logline reads:
Dr. Richard Strand (Coster-Waldau), a brilliant psychiatrist with a mysterious past, teams with the obsessed, relentless scientist Alex Regan to debunk paranormal cases of hauntings, possessions, disappearances, and sinister legends – the infamous black tapes. But as Strand and Regan unravel the secrets of these events, they uncover a hidden occult world behind our own and must unravel a centuries-old apocalyptic conspiracy.
Miles and Bae will serve as writers and executive producers on The Black Tapes, with Kearie Peak of Peak Pictures and John Rogers and Jennifer Court of Kung Fu Monkey Productions also executive producing. MGM+ Studios will produce.
While best known for his role as Jaime Lannister in HBO's fantasy drama series, Coster-Waldau is no stranger to genre, making his film debut in 1994 in the Danish horror-thriller Nightwatch, and going on to star in Andy Muschietti's Mama.
The Black Tapes will be available on MGM+ in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Latin America.
