Sosie Bacon is already a horror veteran, and now she’s bringing a couple newcomers into the fold. Variety reports that the Smile star is set to lead Get Rid of It, a new road trip horror film, alongside Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley and Simon Rex.
Get Rid of It is directed by Ry Russo-Young, from a script written by Gemma Holdway. No other casting has been announced as of yet, but the film’s synopsis (per Variety) is as follows:
“Get Rid of It” follows Harper (Ridley) and her sister, Jessie (Bacon), who embark on a cross-country road trip when Harper discovers she’s pregnant after a one-night-stand with a mysterious drifter named Miller (Rex). The sisters find themselves fighting for survival as they discover the thing growing inside Harper may not be human.
Shooting on the film is set to begin sometime early next year, with producer David Lancaster — whose credits also include Nightcrawler and Drive — backing the project. Other details on the film are few and far between, though sales are being launched at the American Film Market this week.
“Propulsive and playful, this project’s strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror. I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators,” said Russo-Young.
Bacon is, of course, best known for her role in the first Smile film, though she also recently featured in Family Movie alongside her parents Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Ridley is relatively new to horror, though she did feature in last year’s zombie film We Bury the Dead, while Rex starred in the third, fourth, and fifth installments of the Scary Movie franchise.
No release date has been set for Get Rid of It. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
