It’s time for a killer workout! Horror streaming service BloodStream is building up their catalogue for the summer, and with it comes an homage to the neon-soaked workout videos of the 1980s and the slasher movies that came with them. FANGORIA is excited to reveal that Slashercise will premiere on the streamer next month, sending audiences back to when Michael and Jason were still fresh-faced newbies.

Written and directed by Ama Lea, Slashercise stars Felissa Rose, Diana Prince (better known as The Last Drive-In’s Darcy the Mail Girl), Vanessa Decker, John Bloom, Spencer Charnas, Sarah French, Kelli Maroney, Sarah Nicklin, Jared Rivet, Tiffany Shepis, and Lisa Wilcox. The film’s synopsis is as follows:

Slashercise follows a masked killer known only as Meathead as he stalks the fitness clubs of Los Angeles, turning workout sessions into blood-soaked nightmares. As the city's top trainers are picked off one by one, a group of determined fitness fanatics must fight back before they become the next bodies on the mat. Part slasher movie, part aerobics fever dream, the film blends outrageous kills, synth-heavy atmosphere, practical gore effects, and high-energy workout routines into a surreal tribute to VHS-era horror and fitness culture.

Slashercise is exactly the kind of film BloodStream was built to champion,” says BloodStream’s Heidi Honeycutt. “Ama Lea combines a genuine love of horror cinema with a striking visual style and an infectious sense of fun. It's a film that feels completely at home alongside the cult classics that inspired it.”

The new film joins BloodStream’s ever-expanding lineup of films, dedicated to underseen indie gems and gory new stories. Other recent additions and future films include Last Chance Motel, Fresh Meat, and the full five-movie Game series.

“We never set out to make a traditional fitness video,” says Decker. “We wanted to create an experience horror fans could laugh with, sweat through, and revisit again and again.”

Slashercise premieres on BloodStream on July 1, before expanding to additional platforms on October 1.
