You’ve heard of gateway horror movies for kids, but what about music? Well, if you’ve ever wanted to rock your baby to sleep to the sound of the Monster Mash or the theme from Halloween, now you can, thanks to Rockabye Baby’s new album, themed around some of your favorite spooky songs.
Rockabye Baby is known for their cover albums, turning popular rock and pop songs into lullabies suitable for playing to infants and newborns. They’ve covered The Beach Boys, Queen, Prince, and even Metallica, and they’re good for more than just putting kids to sleep, if you’re childless. (Seriously, their version of David Bowie’s “China Girl” is some of my favorite focus music ever.)
This latest album, which hits streaming tomorrow, features some of the most recognizable Halloween tunes around, including “This Is Halloween” from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ray Parker Jr.’s Ghostbusters theme, and “I Put a Spell on You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.

But they’ve also picked some more eclectic songs to go along with them, like the title track from Oingo Boingo’s Dead Man’s Party, and adorable versions of “Pet Sematary” by The Ramones and “People Are Strange” by The Doors. If you’re looking for some chill music to play at a more relaxed Halloween get-together, this might be right up your alley.
But it’s not the only Halloween album arriving this fall. Fango’s own web editor BJ Colangelo features on The Killer Sounds of Halloween Rises from the Grave, the fifth in a series of albums from Sean Keller. Or you could try Skeleton Sam’s Deadtime Stories for something more intense, with the new LVCRFT album featuring familiar names like Heather Langenkamp and Bruce Campbell.
Rockabye Baby Halloween arrives on streaming on October 16.
