Zydrate may come in a little glass vial, but Repo! The Genetic Opera is getting a whole new kind of package. Lionsgate announced a new 4K Ultra HD release of the cult classic rock opera, arriving on shelves this fall so everyone can experience the gothic chaos of GeneCo and its minions as they prepare for Halloween.
Originally released in 2008, the musical horror film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, based on the stage musical by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich. The film stars Alexa PenaVega, the late Anthony Head, Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino, Bill Moseley, and Paris Hilton, and its synopsis is as follows:
In the not-so-distant future, a worldwide epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GENECO, a biotech company that offers organ transplants…for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession — and hunted by the REPO man.

The new 4K release of the film appears as part of a new remaster approved by Bousman, featuring special Dolby Vision mastering. It features new steelbook artwork by Chuck Styles, along with a specially designed O-card, new artworks for its discs, and four double-sided, collectible character cards. All of this accompanies its packed-full list of special features, including a new audio commentary with Bousman, Smith, and Zdunich, featurettes like “The Anatomy of a Cult” and “Addicted to the Shadowcast,” and video singalongs.
The Blu-ray also comes with several legacy bonus features from past versions of the film, including a 2007 commentary featuring the cast and crew, poster galleries and webisode featurettes, and deleted scenes with optional commentary from star Paris Hilton and Bousman.
Repo! The Genetic Opera arrives on 4K and Blu-ray on October 13, and is available to pre-order now.
