Well, it’s finally happening: this February, Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will finally be available in 4K Ultra HD. The set, which is headed our way via Dark Sky Films, is overflowing with extras (including a new documentary!) and will likely look better than any previous version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ever has. It doesn’t get more “day one purchase” than this, gang.

First, let’s check in with the Dark Sky Twitter account to check out the cover art for this bad boy…

Pretty snazzy! See that slip cover, the one with the giant eye on it? Some of you may recognize that as the work of artist Jason Edmiston, who released that very image as a gorgeous Mondo poster some years back. It’s great to see Edmiston’s painting utilized here. Adds quite a bit of personality to the package, don’t ya think?

Now. Let’s talk bonus features. Here they are, via our friends at Rue Morgue:

Disc One (UHD):

  • Audio commentary by writer/producer/director Tobe Hooper, actor Gunnar Hansen and cinematographer Daniel Pearl
  • Audio commentary by actors Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger and Paul A. Partain with production designer Robert Burns
  • Audio commentary by Tobe Hooper solo
  • Audio commentary by Daniel Pearl, editor J. Larry Carroll and sound recordist Ted Nicolaou.

Disc Two (Blu-ray):

  • New, never-before-seen feature-length documentary The Legacy of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE
  • “The Cinefamily Presents FRIEDKIN/HOOPER,” a conversation about the film between Tobe Hooper and THE EXORCIST director William Friedkin
  • “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth”
  • “Flesh Wounds: Seven Stories of the Saw”
  • A tour of the TEXAS CHAINSAW house with Gunnar Hansen
  • “Off the Hook with Teri McMinn”
  • “The Business of Chain Saw: An Interview with Production Manager Ron Bozman.”
  • Deleted scenes and outtakes
  • Blooper reel
  • Trailers
  • Vintage TV and radio spots

That’s a stacked set! If we have any complaints here, it’s that this release won’t be ready in time for Christmas. We woulda stuffed everyone’s stocking with a copy of Chain Saw in 4K if they’d let us! Oh, well. If it can’t be available in time for the holidays, we suppose we’ll survive until the set drops on February 28th.

Stay tuned for more on the Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Ultra HD release as further updates become available. In the meantime, set aside some shelf space: the ‘Saw is coming home.
