Today brings us a brand-new trailer for Bryce McGuire's Night Swim, which is headed to theaters on January 5th. From the looks of things, this creepy aquatic tale may very well do for swimming pools what Steven Spielberg's Jaws once did for the ocean (or, who knows? Maybe you're a twisted little freak who wants to encounter a drowned corpse in your pool skimmer; we don't know your life).
Here's an official synopsis:
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscar nominee Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren, Fear the Walking Dead).
Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.
Sounds good! Let's see what this looks like in action...
Given its arrival date, it seems that Night Swim may be the first horror film we see in theaters in 2024, and it looks like a strong way to kick off the year! We're very curious to find out who or what is haunting the Waller family's pool, why it seems so angry, and why the family doesn't immediately fill the pool in with cement at the first sign of trouble.
Nothing further to report on Night Swim at this time, but rest assured we'll keep you abreast of any further updates between now and its arrival in theaters on January 5th. Stay tuned, folks!
