In an exclusive today, Deadline revealed that the upcoming feature remake of H.G. Wells’ classic sci-fi novel The Invisible Man has been acquired for North American, UK and international release by a number of distributors.

Paul Dudbridge (Horizon) directs and co-produces the new adaptation which, according to Deadline is set in the 1890s and follows:

…Adeline, a young British woman who provides shelter to an old medical school colleague, a man who has somehow turned himself invisible. As his isolation grows and his sanity frays, he schemes to create a reign of wanton murder and terror across the city – and Adeline’s the only one who knows he even exists.

Fear The Invisible Man stars Mhairi Calvey (The Curse of Hobbes House), David Hayman (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Mark Arnold (Teen Wolf), and Mike Beckingham (Truth Seekers). Written by Philip Daay (Abduct, Crystal’s Shadow) and developed by producer Monika Gergelova (Checkmate), the film has been acquired for North America by Screen Media, for France by Factoris Films, for Germany by Dolphin, and for India by Superfine films. UK rights will remain with 101 Films, who originally secured the distribution deals.

Deadline also reported that Andy Lyon, CEO of 101 Films has referred to the film as an “intriguing reimagining” with a “strong cast and incredible photography”.

Fear The Invisible Man is the latest in a vast catalogue of film and television adaptations of Wells’ story, including James Whale’s 1933 Universal Classic and, most recently, Leigh Whannell’s 2020 reimagining starring Elisabeth Moss (which swept the 2021 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards).
