TERROR TRAIN (2022)

For a free streaming service, Tubi has really become something of a quiet haven for genre fare. There are tons of cult classic horror films on the service that are just a few clicks away, many of which might have seemed lost to time once video stores mostly died out. It’s honestly impressive. Heck, you can watch Syfy’s weird 2005 Man-Thing movie right now if you choose. But they have been diving more into original movies as of late. Their latest endeavor? A remake of an ‘80s slasher cult classic in the form of Terror Train. The movie pulls into the station next week, and we’ve got a trailer. Let’s take a gander.

The original film was directed by Roger Spottiswoode and was released in 1980, with Jamie Lee Curtis starring in the lead role, coming just a couple of years after her star-making turn in Halloween. While this very much looks like a different film, it appears to keep the same basic premise (people getting murdered on a train) intact. And it also looks like we’ve got one heck of a killer clown at the center of the action. This comes as part of Tubi’s “Terror on Tubi” series, which is intended to offer horror goods for the Halloween season. The official synopsis reads as follows:

“This contemporary reimagining of the 1980 cult classic follows Alana (Robyn Alomar) and a group of college seniors who board a party train for a Halloween-themed bash, but their fun spirals into fear as attendees are killed off one by one by an unknown killer. Concealed by costumes and plagued with chaos, everyone is a suspect. As the party train continues full steam ahead, Alana must race against the rails to find the killer before she becomes the next victim.”

Tim Rozon, of Wynonna Earp fame, stars alongside Alomar. The remake was directed by Philippe Gagnon (Amber Alert), with a script by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin (Slasher). Graham Ludlow (Talent Drivers), Shari Segal (The Christmas Checklist), and Brook Peters (The Christmas Checklist) serve as executive producers. Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer of Tubi, had this to say about it:

“We can’t wait for viewers to take a ride on the Terror Train, the tentpole for our annual ‘Terror on Tubi’ event in October. With an incredibly talented team of filmmakers and star-making performances, this movie continues to cement Tubi as a key destination for horror fans.”

Terror Train arrives on Tubi on October 21.
