Paramount Pictures is off to the races with the next installment in the A Quiet Place franchise. Yes, indeed, as unlikely as it perhaps seemed before the original horror flick from writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods opened in 2018, this has become a full-fledged universe, with a brand new prequel set to hit theaters in the form of A Quiet Place: Day One. And John Krasinski, who directed the first two installments in the series, has taken to social media to declare that the prequel in question has indeed kicked off production.

Though they don’t tell us much, we can see Krasinki on set in those behind-the-scenes photos alongside some of the cast and crew. That includes director Michael Sarnoski who, up to this point, is best known for directing Pig, the indie flick that earned Nicolas Cage some of the best reviews of his entire career. Originally, Jeff Nichols, of Midnight Special fame, was set to direct this one but eventually parted ways with the project to work on an original sci-fi film for Paramount instead. That paved the way for Sarnoski to step in. Krasinski cooked up the story, with Sarnoski and Nichols credited with penning the screenplay.

No plot details have been revealed as of yet, though the “day one” of it all suggests we’re going back to the start of the invasion. For those who may need a refresher, the films generally center on the remnants of humanity following a mysterious alien invasion, the invading creatures equipped with particularly great hearing. So, those who are left, learn to be quiet or die. Worth noting that A Quiet Place: Part II featured an impressive cold open showing what happened when the aliens first arrived. Presumably, we’ll see even more of that uncertainty and carnage this time around.

The spin-off features a pretty impressive cast led by Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Alex Wolff (Hereditary). That’s just who we know about so far, as there are sure to be other humans afoot as the alien carnage gets underway. Let us not forget that this is the first day of the chaos, meaning lots of people to serve as cannon fodder for the creatures as they arrive to turn our world upside down.

Also of note, this is not taking the place of a possible Quiet Place 3, which is still in some stage of development at the studio. Given that the first two films made a combined $631 million at the box office against combined budgets of $78 million, we have every reason to assume that Paramount would like to see the trilogy completed, along with this prequel.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently set to hit theaters on March 8, 2024.
