I’m a sucker for creepy object movies, and Harbinger sounds like it features a doozy. This indie horror movie from director James Crow centers around Julia (Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott), the sole survivor of the late serial killer Henry Decker (Peter Woodward), who also happened to be her lover.

As Julia tries to piece her life back together, she’s approached by Mike (Gary Webster), the host of a TV ghost-hunting show, who lures her back into the home that she and Decker once shared. But her ex was dabbling in black magic before he died.

When the show’s resident psychic (Tony Sands) reveals the eerie automated fortune-telling machine at the center of Decker’s collection, you can probably predict how well their investigation goes.

If we learned one thing from Sinners, it’s that Ryan Coogler is a truly phenomenal director and needs to make more horror. But if we learned two things, it’s that Irish vampires can’t be trusted—so you might want to be careful around the creature in Feed!​

Written and directed by Marco van Belle, who also penned the recent Chris Pratt vehicle Mercy, Feed follows a gaggle of influencers hanging out in rural Ireland. There, they encounter the Dearg-Due, an ancient vampire from Irish folklore that seems drawn to Orla (Grace Collender), who is dealing with a whole heap of trauma. As the creature plays mind-bending tricks on the group, Orla is forced to make an impossible choice: kill it and lose her friends, or become its next host.

Director Yeon Sang-ho already gave us one of the best zombie films in recent memory with 2016’s Train to Busan (the American remake of which has seemingly stalled). Can he do it again with Colony, infecting theaters on August 28?

In the action-horror film, Professor Se-jeong (Jun Ji-hyun) is attending a biotech conference when a mutating virus is unleashed. As the outbreak rapidly spreads through the facility, the authorities seal it off—forcing Se-jeong and her peers to fight for their lives inside.

Closing out the month, Aussie filmmaker Mia-Kate Russell makes her feature directorial debut with the Ozploitation-inspired slasher Penny Lane Is Dead, coming to Shudder on August 28.

Set on a hot summer’s night in 1986, the film sees the titular Penny Lane celebrating with her long-time friends after getting into college. But when her jealous and troubled cousin decides to play a cruel prank involving a cupcake, their night of revelry quickly descends into one of bloodshed—and revenge.​
