While original horror might be having a hell of a year, studios aren’t slowing down on adaptations just yet. Variety reports that the production company Story Kitchen is developing an adaptation of Madison, the psychological horror game originally released in 2022 by Bloodious Games.

No details are available on the project as of yet, including casting or crew details, but Variety writes that Story Kitchen is aiming for the film to hit theaters. The development arrives only a few short years after the game was originally released in 2022, with a first-person POV following Luca Maxwell, who receives a cursed camera for his sixteenth birthday. The gift forces him to continue a murderous ritual originally started by the film’s titular serial killer, and players solve puzzles using the cursed camera to break the cycle.

“’Madison’ earned its reputation one heartbeat at a time. Players don’t just remember the story; they remember what it did to them,” said Story Kitchen’s Dmitri Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “Our job is to carry that physical experience into a theater without losing what makes it Bloodious’s world.”

The new adaptation comes on the heels of the original game universe expanding into new and unique storytelling modes. A free Halloween update just arrived, offering an expanded normal mode as well as an intense new Possession mode, and a new story expansion called “The Maxwells’ Curse” arrives sometime next year.

The film will be one of numerous game adaptations for Story Kitchen, who are also currently developing silver screen versions of Life Is Strange, Streets of Rage, and the upcoming Tomb Raider series on Netflix.

“We built ‘Madison’ to be felt, not just played,” says Madison’s creator Alexis Di Stefano. “Story Kitchen understood from the first conversation that the camera, the house, the Maxwell family, and the terrifying entities behind it all aren’t just set dressing; they’re the franchise. That’s who we wanted to build the next chapter with.”
