IDW has been something of a quiet haven for horror fans over the last couple of years. The publisher’s horror imprint, IDW Dark, has expanded many popular franchises, including Smile and A Quiet Place, while also housing new, original horror stories. But with New York Comic upon us, the publisher has even bigger plans hiding around the corner. And Fango has an exclusive look at what’s coming your way.

IDW Goes Dark is truly taking over with a sinister selection of brand new horror comics throughout all of 2027. While specific details are to be revealed at a later date, Fango can reveal several new horror comics from the following franchises:
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Hello Kitty
- Godzilla
- Star Trek
- Plus, new IDW Dark originals will be announced
Yep, that’s right! Even Hello Kitty is getting the horror treatment. IDW gave Godzilla a bold new start with the Kai-Sei era in 2025, and it's been a big success. And the King of the Monsters has always lent himself to horror. But some of these titles are legitimately surprising, and one can only imagine how the genre will be played with.
To go along with the title reveals, we also have exclusive cover art for upcoming horror titles hitting shelves in the coming months, including A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, the Smile prequel Any Given Smile, and Event Horizon: Pandemonium, which brings the recent Event Horizon trilogy to a close.

Other titles will also continue to be released under the IDW Goes Dark initiative, including Fatal Fest, a new original horror book from creator/writer Hannah Rose May. IDW will also be releasing new issues of The Twilight Zone and Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees: The Summer And The Fall, the finale of the hit cozy horror saga. Heather Antos, Senior Group Editor at IDW, had this to say about it:
“One of my earliest memories is the day I accidentally watched Stephen King's It when I was nearly 5 years old. One of my first jobs was working in my local haunted house as a teenager. And one of the first comics I ever fell in love with was Hellblazer. We've been blown away by the way fans have embraced IDW's horror books, and this is our opportunity to give them even more of what they love while pushing these characters and worlds into places they've never gone before. We're bringing together incredible creators, iconic licenses, bold new ideas, and the absolute best damn comics we can make — and I cannot wait to see just how dark we can go.”
“I'm a big genre guy in general, but horror is my one true love. When I first took over TMNT, one of the first lines on my Turtles wish list was ‘horror story.’ So I'm thrilled to finally let go of some of my extreme jealousy and fomo over all the awesome work Heather and her crew are doing on IDW Dark by bringing the horror vibes over to TMNT, Godzilla, and Sonic,” added Senior Group Editor Jake Thomas. “If you're a fan of these characters, I think you'll have a blast seeing them through this horror funhouse mirror. If you're a fan of horror, I think you'll get a kick out of seeing some of the classic genre touchstones in these new settings. And if you're like me and you're a huge fan of both horror and these characters…. well, you've got a very exciting year of comics ahead of you, don't you?”
Be on the lookout for more details as IDW is surely going to peel back the curtain as NYCC unfolds. Stay tuned.
