Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, Ghostbusters: Afterlife) is set to make his directorial debut alongsideย Afterlife co-star Billy Bryk withย Hell of a Summer, a horror-comedy slasher that NEON have officially picked up for a 2025 release.
Along with directing, Wolfhard and Bryk also wrote the film and will star, alongside Fred Hechingerย (Fear Street 1994), DโPharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Abby Quinn (Mad About You), andย Pardis Saremi (Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem).
According to Variety:
Hell of a Summer follows counselors who are getting Camp Pineway ready the night before campers arrive when a masked killer begins slaughtering the staff.
Wolfhard and Bryk have said they wrote the film, which premiered at Toronto Film Festival in 2023, ย with a goal of upending Gen Z stereotypes:
โOur No. 1 conversation was how annoying it is to see new teen movies and how badly our age group is represented […] And weโre like, โWhy donโt we just do it?โโ
Hell of a Summer was produced by Aggregate Filmsโ Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan, Parts & Laborโs Jay Van Hoy, Wolfhard, Bryk and Hechinger, with3 0West executive producing.
While NEON haven't set a specific date for release yet, we can't imagine it'll be anything less than a roaring hit, given the success of their 2023 slate, which has included Longlegs, Immaculate andย Cuckoo (among many others!)
We'll bring you more updates onย Hell of a Summer as they roll in.
