Fantastic Fest is just around the corner, and a special short film is coming with it. The Austin-based festival just announced its shorts lineup for this year, and with it comes FANGORIA Studios’ first-ever short film, Goodbye, Monster, and the first look at the film’s titular creature.
Luke Barnett writes, stars in, and directs Goodbye, Monster, which also features voice work from Patton Oswalt and Tina Majorino, with a score from Emmy winner Bear McCreary. Following a twelve-year-old boy as he navigates one last night together with the monster under his bed, the film’s creature effects were brought to life entirely through practical effects designed by Dan Crawley.
Fantastic Fest marks the short’s US premiere after screening at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, and it will also have its UK premiere this weekend at FrightFest. Other shorts joining Goodbye, Monster on the Fantastic Fest lineup include Jimmy’s Custom Coffin, By Yourself, Fight for the Fantasy, Orla, Pre-Parenting, and Stretcher.
Goodbye, Monster is produced by Vince and Natalie Masciale alongside Barnett, with executive producers Tara Ansley, Armen Aghaeian, Abhi Goel, Jake Morgan, and Cole Travis. Co-producers include Joshua Bootz, Adam J. Losoya, and Michael Brodner.
“We’re drawn to auteur filmmakers who aren’t afraid to dive into horror,” says Aghaeian. “Artists who understand that the most unsettling terror lives in obsessively intimate moments yet aren’t afraid to go for the throat. This is central to what we’re building at FANGORIA Studios.”
