There's no stopping indie horror powerhouse Alice Maio Mackay (Carnage for Christmas, The Serpent's Skin), whose sci-fi thriller Our Effed Up World, her seventh feature, has its World Premiere at Fantasia Film Festival on July 18. Ahead of the film's debut, we're excited to bring you the exclusive first teaser courtesy of Dark Star Pictures below:

In Our Effed Up World:
After years of living in an astronomy hot spot, Sheri starts to find solace in the stars, only to have her world turned upside down when her beloved grandmother dies. Alternating between apathy and lashing out, Sheri turns to her ragtag group of cinephile friends for comfort. But when she begins to have strange dreams that coincide with a meteor shower and a string of local disappearances, she uncovers an otherworldly evil that dates all the way back to her father’s youth.
Releasing her first feature, So Vam, at the age of just 16, Mackay has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting names in indie horror. Here's what she has to say about Our Effed Up World:
Our Effed Up World is my latest no budget queer film. I wanted to delve into a completely new sub-genre—sci-fi. But still through my signature lens and blend of campiness and melodrama. This project allowed me to take a step back from all the horrors that are happening around us and to really reflect on what makes us who we are and what we need to do to hang on to what is important in our lives. Whilst also being a rumination on grief and how we cope with living in an “effed” up world.
