Now that Evil Dead Burn is making waves in theaters, Studiocanal is looking back on the sequel that brought the franchise back to life. They’ve just announced a new 2-disc collector’s edition of Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead, featuring a new 4K restoration that brings all its gore and mayhem to life in gruesome detail.
Hitting shelves in October, the collector’s edition features both the theatrical and unrated cuts of the film, housed in a case with bloodcurdling new art by Krishna Bala Shenoi, as well as a 64-page booklet about the making of the film. The 4K release also comes with a host of bonus features, including a commentary, interviews with Álvarez, star Jane Levy, and producer Bruce Campbell, a Q&A filmed at the Ritzy Cinema in London, and much more.
Evil Dead was originally released in 2013, with Sam Raimi, Campbell, and Rob Tapert producing a nastier, amped-up continuation of the beloved series. Starring Levy alongside Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
Mia, a recovering drug addict, asks her brother and their friends to accompany her to a remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. When one of her friends, Eric, finds a Book of the Dead and reads aloud from it, he awakens an ancient demon that possesses Mia and unleashes hell…
The film was a massive success, earning $97 million on a $17 million budget, and not only launched Álvarez’s career, but set up the Evil Dead franchise to return to full power as it had been in the ‘80s, with Ash vs. Evil Dead, as well as Evil Dead Rise and Evil Dead Burn following soon after.
