Just in time to be added to your Halloween party playlist, Dead Man's Bones, the indie rock duo consisting of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, just released their first single in 17 years.
The new track “Lost in the Night” is now streaming and available to purchase on vinyl 12″ via the official Dead Man's Bones site right here.
Described as a “shadowy but hopeful song about being alive and in love”, “Lost in the Night”, first announced on the band's Instagram earlier this week, retains that classic spooky sound that Dead Man's Bones aimed for when the band formed in 2005, after Gosling and Shields bonded over a mutual love of horror, and particularly Disneyland's Haunted Mansion.
Featuring vocals from the Silverlake Conservatory of Music's children's choir, Dead Man's Bones' self-titled debut album was released in 2009 to critical acclaim. Recently, the single “In the Room Where You Sleep” has had a resurgence as a viral audio track frequently used on TikTok to accompany creepy reels. You've definitely heard it, even if you had no idea it was accredited to Ken himself.
Since Dead Man's Bones' first album, Gosling hasn't dabbled in horror too much (real ones will of course know he cut his teeth on the genre in the “Say Cheese and Die” episode of the OG Goosebumps series), but Shields has been a regular fixture, co-writing Michael Dougherty's holiday horror classic Krampus, with credits on Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), too.
Watch the new music video for “Lost in the Night”, starring Rain Spencer (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Noah Jupe (Hamnet, Mike Flanagan's upcoming The Exorcist: Martyrs), below.
