If youโ€™ve had enough of Halloween and Christmas getting all the attention when it comes to holiday slashers, weโ€™ve got good news for you. Kino Lorber has announced that theyโ€™re releasing the 1986 horror comedy April Foolโ€™s Day on 4K Ultra HD this January โ€” a perfect gift for the horror-loving prankster in your life!

Starring Valley Girl icon Deborah Foreman, the film follows Muffy St. John as she invites her college friends to her parentsโ€™ secluded island house for the part of their lives. But things donโ€™t go as planned, when the guest list grows shorter and shorter as bodies begin to drop, and what starts out as a weekend of harmless pranks turns into the teensโ€™ worst nightmare. The oft-forgotten slasher is directed by Fred Walton, the mind behind When a Stranger Calls, and also stars Griffin Oโ€™Neal, Jay Baker, and Deborah Goodrich.

The two-disc release from Kino Lorber features the remastered film on one disc, a brand new HDR and Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the original camera negative, plus a new audio commentary by film historians Howard S. Berger, Steve Mitchell and Nathaniel Thompson. The second, all region Blu-ray disc is chock full of bonus features, including the following:

  • Horror with a Twist – Part 1: Interview with Director Fred Walton
  • Horror with a Twist – Part 2: Interview with Director Fred Walton
  • Well of Lies: Interview with Actress Deborah Goodrich Royce
  • Looking Forward to Dessert: Interview with Actor Clayton Rohner
  • Bloody Unforgettable: Interview with Composer Charles Bernstein
  • The Eye of Deception: Interview with Cinematographer Charles Minsky

The film joins Kino Lorberโ€™s impressive lineup of 4K rereleases, spanning not only horror but also science fiction, classic cinema, and more, including films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, House of the Long Shadows, and Body Parts
