You just canโt keep a good horror franchise down. Halloween being the arguable king of all horror franchises, it stands to reason that Michael Myers will always find a way to come back – and thatโs precisely whatโs happening. As was first reported by IGN, not one but two new Halloween video games are currently in development from the folks at Boss Team Games. Whatโs more, John Carpenter, the man who directed the original 1978 horror classic that started it all, is โintimately involvedโ with at least one of the games.ย
According to the report, the games will let players “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” Compass International Pictures and Further Front are developing the games in conjunction with Boss Team. While plot details are fully being kept under wraps, one of the games is being developed with Unreal Engine 5. That suggests itโs being taken very seriously. Carpenter had this to say about it:ย
“As a huge gamer myself, Iโm thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.”

Surprisingly, there have been very few video games based on the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode over the years. All due respect to last yearโs mobile game Halloween: A Match Made in Terror. Save for the Halloween game that was made for the Atari way back in โ83, fans havenโt had too much to interact with on this front. It appears thatโs about to change in a big, bad way. Then again, the timing does seem right.ย
David Gordon Greenโs Halloween trilogy concluded in 2022 with Halloween Ends, which opened the door for the series to explore new mediums. To that end, Miramax is currently developing a Halloween TV series, which will bring the franchise to the small screen for the first time in a meaningful way. A new movie would seem like an old hat idea, particularly given the way that Ends, well, ended things. But the rights holders arenโt simply going to leave money on the table. With games like Evil Dead: The Game and Texas Chain Saw Massacre making money, why not Michael Myers too?ย
The Halloween video games currently donโt have release dates but stay tuned. For more, read all about the Halloween Ends novelization and how it improves upon the film.
