Monster Girls, a first-of-its-kind documentary focusing on the history and current work of women in the field of special FX, is set to hit the festival circuit this fall, and weโre very excited to bring you the exclusive details today.
Directed by FX artist and filmmaker Jessie Seitz (Jakobโs Wife, Beyond Horror: The History and Subculture of Red Films), Monster Girls is narrated by Darcy the Mail Girl and FANGORIA contributor herself, Diana Prince (The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, Slashercise).
The documentary, which has been two years in the making, is produced by John Joseph Dunn (Best Served Cold), Jen Shelby (Black Mold), and Luke Boyce (Revealer).
Monster Girlsโ impressive and knowledgable slate of interviewees includes Ve Neill (Beetlejuice, Batman Returns), Jennifer Aspinall (Toxic Avenger, Street Trash), Missy Munster (Slipknot, Ice Nine Kills) and KC Mussman (Nocturnal Designz).
In a statement, Seitz expanded on her inspiration for Monster Girls:
โThis project came about because I was having trouble finding any sort of definitive list of women in my field [โฆ] I started sifting through IMDB pages and was shocked to find so many women behind some of cinemaโs most iconic looks. All I could think was โWhy havenโt I heard of them? Why are these artists not household names the same way their male colleagues are?โ. I pulled together a pitch deck and with the help of my producers Iโve been able to piece together this sort of hidden history.โ
You can stay up to date on the project through Monster Girlsโ official Instagram and YouTube channels, and below you can find poster art by designer Rachid Lotf and a photo of Ms Prince (reading her favorite magazine…!) by Amanda Rebholz.
