V/H/S/MIXTAPE, the latest in Shudder's long-running found-footage anthology series, hits the streamer on October 9 and features all-new segments from the legendary Ernest Dickerson (Demon Knight, Bones), David Moreau (Ils, Mads), and acclaimed filmmaker Renee Zhan. Hip-hop icon RZA also joins in the fun with a short we're excited to bring you an exclusive first look at today.
In Death Tone, RZA's latest directorial effort following last year's explosive One Spoon of Chocolate, a young sound engineer follows her late dad's instructions to create the ultimate track.
From the looks of these exclusive stills, Dad might have been butchering more than just beats in the studio:
Death Tone is joined by Zhan's killer puppet horror Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Moreau's sonically sinister Heartbeat, and Dickerson's documentary send-up The Music of Mr. Sze inV/H/S/MIXTAPE, which also features original music video interludes directed by musician and V/H/S veteran Flying Lotus (Ozzy's Dungeon, Ash).
The film also sees the debut of a brand-new music video from debut filmmaker Tobias Forge, with legendary shock-metal pioneers GWAR also joining in the carnage, further cementing the film's celebration of horror, music, and cult cinema.
V/H/S/MIXTAPE follows last year's V/H/S/HALLOWEEN, which included segments from Bryan M. Ferguson (Pumpkin Guts), Casper Kelly (Buddy), Micheline Pitt-Norman & R.H. Norman (Cosmetic), Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell, Queen of Earth), Paco Plaza (REC, Verónica), and Anna Zlokovic (Appendage).
Past contributors to the film franchise have included Ti West, David Bruckner, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Chloe Okuno, Timo Tjahjanto, Natasha Kermani, and Adam Wingard, to name but a few.
Don't miss V/H/S/MIXTAPE streaming on Shudder this Friday.
