Are you a fan of musical scores who also happens to love FANGORIA? Well, we've got news for you: former Fango editor-in-chief Chris Alexander is performing one hell of a gig this month, partnering with Ethan McCarthy to open for legendary composer Fabio Frizzi at his Frizzi 2 Fulci concert in Toronto.
On September 30 at TD Music Hall inside Toronto’s popular Massey Hall venue, Alexander will play his own heavy, dark electronic music ahead of Frizzi’s performance. If you’re a fan of bands like Depeche Mode or New Order, or just want something a little Gothic in your life, his work is right up your alley.
After that, you’ll get to see Frizzi live and in person, performing with his band as they re-orchestrate themes from some of his most iconic works that he drummed up for the films of Lucio Fulci. The two collaborated for fifteen years on a variety of projects, producing some of the most beloved giallo films of all time, including The Beyond, Zombi 2, Manhattan Baby, Silver Saddle, and Seven Notes in Black.
But while this concert may focus on Frizzi’s work with the House by the Cemetery director, that’s certainly not all he’s known for. Beginning with the 1975 film Fantozzi, he’s racked up a career of over a hundred film scores, including collaborations with other directors like Lamberto Bava and Bruno Corbucci, and projects like 1977’s Godzilla, an edited and colorized version of the 1954 Toho film released in Italy.
Frizzi 2 Fulci is one of three shows Frizzi has been touring with for the last thirteen years. In addition to this concert of his work with Fulci, he also performs The Beyond’s Composer’s Cut, which features a screening of one of his films accompanied by a live performance of the score, as well as Fabio Frizzi — Rewind, an autobiographical show of music and anecdotes from his life and career.
