In the words of the great Tammy Faye, everybody loves puppets, and we especially like 'em when they're covered in blood and guts. If you feel the same (and we expect you do), and you happen to be heading to Austin's Fantastic Fest later this month, make sure you get yourself tickets for the World Premiere of Kylgor in the Grisly Abyss, the directorial debut from writer/director Mason Jeffrey Newton-DeRushie.
Described as being in the tradition of the great sword-and-sandal barbarian movies, airbrushed conversion vans, and kids' movies that were way too heavy for their intended audience, Kylgor in the Grisly Abyss is set in a nearly utopian kingdom that secretly provides for its people by ravaging and oppressing neighboring lands. One day, one of those kingdoms elects a trio of champions and charges them with a simple task: kill the king:
Kylgor and his men battle courageously through the kingdom, storm the castle, and promptly remove the king’s head before fleeing from his most faithful guards. While navigating their escape, Kylgor, his compatriots, and the king’s guards fall into a deep, mystical cave. Trapped, with only their wits and steel to save them from an unending horde of ravenous beasts, deceitful hallucinations, and evil magicks corrupting their very flesh (err… foam rubber), the former enemies must either find enough common ground to work together or die in the dark labyrinth.

Playing ahead of Kylgor in the Grisly Abyss is FANGORIA Studios’ first-ever short film, Goodbye, Monster, from writer/director Luke Barnett.
Featuring voice work from Patton Oswalt and Tina Majorino, Goodbye, Monster follows a twelve-year-old boy as he navigates one last night together with the monster under his bed. The film’s creature effects were brought to life entirely through practical effects designed by Dan Crawley, with a score from Emmy winner Bear McCreary,
The Kylgor/Goodbye, Monster screening will also include a ‘Draw Your Own Monster' activation, which sounds like a recipe for splatter silliness in a room full of horror fans.
